The Joker, Batman’s greatest enemy, is arguably the most famous villain ever created. He’s a terrifying agent of chaos, brilliantly intelligent and wielding deadly, joke-themed weapons and complex plans, all fueled by a cruel enjoyment of causing suffering. Despite being a purely human criminal – without any superpowers – the Joker has, on many occasions in both the main DC Comics universe and throughout alternate realities, gained incredible powers, which he enthusiastically uses to inflict even greater harm and devastation.
Over time and in different realities, the Joker has gained dangerous powers that let him create chaos and disorder worldwide.
7) Absolute Joker

The Absolute Universe features a particularly frightening and clever version of the Joker. Much of his past remains a mystery, but it’s known he’s lived for centuries and amassed a vast fortune. He’s incredibly powerful, with enough influence and money to destroy a small nation. What’s even more terrifying is his ability to transform: he appears as a charming, athletic man, but can shift into a monstrous, demonic creature with deadly claws and teeth. Combining immense wealth, a long life, and a horrifying transformation, the Absolute Joker is one of the most dangerous villains in the Absolute Universe.
6) Deimos Joker

Eris, Phobos, and Deimos – gods seeking their father Ares’ approval – decided to cause trouble by taking control of Gotham’s villains. Eris possessed Poison Ivy, Phobos took over Scarecrow, and Deimos inhabited the Joker. This transformation turned the Joker into a monstrous figure with a snake-like tail and hair that could trap even powerful heroes like Wonder Woman. Because of Phobos’ influence, the Joker could also inflict intense fear on anyone he targeted. Although Deimos and the Joker struggled for dominance, they both craved widespread devastation. However, Ares disapproved of his children controlling humans and ultimately freed the Joker by expelling Deimos.
5) Green Man

The world of Dark Knights of Steel features a frightening villain called the Green Man, a combination of Lex Luthor and the Joker, fueled by the power of a Green Lantern Ring. Once a respected advisor named Alexander Luthor, he was exiled and discovered a magical ring. While it granted him immense power, it also drove him insane and turned his skin pale. Controlled by the ring, he murdered King Thomas and Queen Martha Wayne, and magically killed King Jor-El with an enchanted arrow. The ring allows the Green Man to destroy entire armies and defeat powerful foes like Poison Ivy. However, the ring’s true masters – the evil White Martians – ultimately killed him when he was no longer useful.
4) Joker-Lex

Joker-Lex came into being during a robbery attempt by Lex Luthor and the Joker. After stealing an alien artifact called the Absorbascon – which grants its user unlimited knowledge – the two villains began to quarrel. Their struggle unleashed a powerful energy surge, merging them into a single being called Joker-Lex. This new form allowed Joker-Lex to shoot dangerous Kryptonite lasers. Even when Superman and Batman combined their powers to battle him, Joker-Lex was equally fast and strong. The Absorbascon also gave him the ability to anticipate his enemies’ attacks, discover their secret identities, and even reduce human intelligence. Fortunately, while Joker-Lex was preoccupied fighting the combined Superman and Batman, Atom and Flash created a device that separated the two villains, undoing the fusion.
3) Lord of Chaos Joker

In the world of Injustice, before Superman ultimately defeated him, the Joker briefly became incredibly powerful thanks to a magical artifact. While Doctor Fate gets his powers from the Helmet of Fate and the Lords of Order, the Joker’s power came from the Chaos Helmet, making him a champion of the Lords of Chaos. With this helmet, the Joker gained access to powerful spells and wreaked havoc – he destroyed the Hall of Justice, sent most of the Justice Society to another universe, knocked out Wonder Woman, and even brainwashed Superman. Fortunately, Superman was eventually able to break free from the mind control and destroy the Chaos Helmet, ending the Joker’s reign of magical power.
2) Spectre Joker

The Spectre, representing God’s ultimate judgment, predictably sought to punish the Joker for his terrible crimes. However, when the Spectre delved into the Joker’s mind to understand the source of his evil, something unexpected happened. The Joker’s twisted psyche was so strong that he overwhelmed the Spectre and stole his immense power. Empowered like a god, the Joker grew to gigantic size and unleashed chaos on Gotham, turning police cars into monstrous vehicles and summoning a massive mallet to destroy buildings. Eventually, the Spectre regained control and forced the Joker to experience the full weight of the pain he had caused.
1) Emperor Joker

Mr. Mxyzptlk, a powerful being who can change anything, briefly shared some of his power with the Joker just to see what would happen. Predictably, the Joker used this small amount of power to trick Mxyzptlk into giving him everything. This turned the Joker into an all-powerful god, and he immediately began causing unimaginable destruction. He devoured the population of China, destroyed Earth, mind-controlled incredibly powerful beings like Darkseid and the Spectre, and endlessly tortured Batman. He even threatened the entire multiverse. Ultimately, Superman was able to exploit the Joker’s obsession with Batman, causing the villain to accidentally give up the power and restore things to normal.
