Characters in the Marvel Universe who are mutants often embark on solo adventures. Occasionally, being part of the X-Men isn’t enough; some stories and characters demand a standalone focus. While it’s not unusual for mutants to depart from the X-Men to tell their own tales, there are a few who haven’t had this opportunity, at least not extensively. Whether they’re prominent figures or secondary characters, there are Marvel Universe mutants who deserve a solo comic series at some point.
No matter if the series are mini-series, maxi-series, or continuously running, these characters certainly warrant additional attention, particularly since the X-Men are poised to gain unprecedented popularity upon their arrival in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
1) Cyclops
As a devoted film enthusiast, I’d venture to say that while Cyclops might not strictly necessitate a solo series, he truly deserves one. After all, he’s been rather underserved in the Fox movie universe and, unfortunately, has had his share of underappreciated comic book storylines. This has led many fans to overlook him for far too long.
However, the resurgence of Cyclops’ popularity in recent times proves that he’s once again where he should be after a prolonged period of being underestimated. He’s one of the X-Men’s finest, and a solo series would serve as an excellent platform to highlight his exceptional qualities.
After a long time, Scott has regained the favor of the fans, and delving into his multifaceted feelings as a leader could lead to captivating narratives, particularly after Krakoa. Regardless of what he does next, he’ll always maintain his reputation for being impeccably dressed.
2) Dani Moonstar
For quite some time now, Dani Moonstar, who frequently goes unnoticed yet shares leadership with the New Mutants, has deserved a solo comic book series. Her unique talent lies in transforming adversaries’ nightmares into weapons against them, making her a formidable opponent to subdue. Add to that her proficiency with a bow and arrow, coupled with her Asgardian training, and you have all the ingredients for an exceptional series.
Frequently featured in the solo books of other characters or in limited X-Men storylines, Dani has earned a devoted following among fans. Her unique powers, coupled with the profound importance of her lineage and her battles against discrimination on various fronts, make her an incredibly captivating character. It’s high time she received more exposure and a prominent role within any X-Men squad.
3) Warlock
In simpler terms, Warlock – the beloved, shape-shifting alien robot who typically works in groups – is an unlikely candidate for a solo book. However, given his unique characteristics and knack for providing comic relief, a standalone series focusing on him trying to blend in with others could lead to hilarious antics. This comedy series would be delightful to read, with Doug Ramsey potentially making appearances and the story possibly evolving into a buddy comedy at times.
4) Quentin Quire
First introduced in Grant Morrison’s “New X-Men,” Quentin Quire is a character that’s hard not to dislike. Yet, his prodigious Omega-level mutant abilities combined with a personality that makes you want to slug him make for an intriguing lead character. Portraying someone you can’t help but despise yet excels at tackling formidable psychic challenges promises a lot of entertaining drama. I have my doubts about its longevity, but his fans would surely appreciate more of him in future stories.
Some might find additional screen time for Quentin appealing, as it offers an opportunity to delve deeper into his individuality, potentially swaying opinions about the character. Despite being a controversial figure, having such diverse characters is essential. Showcasing Quentin alone could reveal unexpected layers within him.
5) Madelyne Pryor
For many X-Men enthusiasts, the malevolent duplicate of Jean Grey has been in an unusual situation for a while. Although she’s resurfaced multiple times with differing moral alignments, Madelyne Pryor deserves more limelight. She spearheaded the Dark X-Men series, but there’s potential for so much more. A comic title centered around her emotions of being sidelined by the X-Men could offer compelling character development in the future.
As one captivated by her enchanting persona, I can’t help but acknowledge the potential in Madelyne, particularly given her position as the sovereign of Limbo. Her unique blend of magical and psionic powers sets her apart from the typical leading character, transcending mere stereotypes. Delving deeper into her complexities reveals a depth that far surpasses the notion of an “evil” clone of Jean Grey, making her an intriguing subject for further exploration.
6) Sabertooth
Despite receiving less than favorable responses in standalone comics, it’s worth giving Sabertooth another chance for a solo storyline. Pursuing Wolverine due to trivial reasons and hunting threats for personal enjoyment could create an engaging tale. Exploring the depth of his ruthlessness against adversaries and allowing him to unleash in a mature-rated setting would fulfill every fan’s desire for the villainous character.
Beyond just his association with Wolverine, it’d be intriguing to have him go up against Iron Fist once more. Historically, he has been portrayed as an adversary of Iron Fist, but a fresh encounter between the two would make for some exciting action. A solo series could provide the ideal platform for such a showdown.
7) Mister Sinister
As a passionate comic book aficionado, I wholeheartedly believe that the enigmatic Mister Sinister deserves his own limelight. His intricate manipulation of genetics and cloning techniques make him an ideal candidate for a captivating solo storyline. Over the years, his allure has only grown stronger, and it’s high time he stepped into the spotlight.
He is no mere chess piece for Apocalypse; rather, he is a complex character with a rich history that deserves to be explored further. And who wouldn’t want more of Sinister? He ranks among Marvel’s finest villains and never fails to captivate us with his cunning machinations and iconic mustache-twirling antics.
