7 reasons why Dispatch is the perfect game for your Christmas break

What makes a video game feel more like watching a TV show? Increasingly, it’s when games are released in chapters, have a compelling storyline, and feature well-known actors.

In the game Dispatch, you play as a struggling ex-superhero (voiced by Aaron Paul from Breaking Bad) who finds himself working a regular office job after unexpectedly retiring from crime-fighting.

Can you use your computer to send a team of former villains to protect the city from various dangers?

Don’t let work stress you out – in this game, your choices really matter, and everyone remembers what you do! Despite the high stakes, it’s a fantastic way to relax and enjoy some time off.

1. The characters are your new best friends

Christmas can make it tough to see friends in person, so consider connecting with new people online instead!

Robert begins the game as a bit of a solitary character. However, he quickly finds himself part of a team and has to build relationships with his new companions.

You can’t please everyone, and that’s okay, but these moments are genuinely fun. To be honest, I’d rather do this than go out.

2. It’s split into manageable chunks

Great news for travelers! If you’ll be doing a lot of traveling this Christmas, this game is perfect for playing in short bursts whenever you have a free moment.

Dispatch is divided into eight episodes, similar to a TV show. This makes it easy to pause and take care of things in your everyday life.

After each episode, you’ll see how well you did during that session, along with a comparison of your scores to those of other players.

3. It’ll keep you off your work emails

Few things are as distracting as daydreaming about having a completely different job, and this game perfectly captures that feeling.

In Dispatch, you control a chaotic group of supervillains. You’re responsible for deciding where they go, when they go, and who they team up with.

Each episode will require you to work at least one shift – that means Robert will be using his computer to send heroes to deal with various disasters. Best of luck!

4. It’s got romance!

Don’t worry if you’re not getting any mistletoe kisses this year! The show ‘Dispatch’ has two big love stories unfolding that you can enjoy.

When you get to choose a romantic interest, think carefully! And after you’ve chosen someone, you’ll need to keep them happy to maintain the relationship.

Because of this feature, you can always replay the game and explore different choices to see how the story unfolds.

5. It’s not too long

It’s easy to get pulled into a really long role-playing game during the holidays, but you probably want to avoid spending a hundred hours playing when you have other plans and need to get back to work soon.

So, I was looking for a game I could really get into, but didn’t want something that would take over my life, you know? Something around eight hours long seemed perfect, and honestly, Dispatch fits the bill perfectly!

Dispatch is designed to be played in short bursts – new episodes came out in pairs, with weeks between releases. So, don’t feel pressured to finish it all at once! You can easily pick up where you left off whenever you have time.

6. It’s portable

Good news for travelers: Dispatch runs great on the Steam Deck, and the battery life isn’t significantly impacted, either.

If you have a PlayStation, you should be able to play Dispatch on your PlayStation Portal too, giving you two ways to enjoy the game while traveling this Christmas.

Dispatch will be released on Nintendo Switch and the next Nintendo console on January 28, 2026. If you’re hoping to play on those systems, you’ll need to wait until after the Christmas holidays!

7. It’s just really, really good

Ultimately, this game is just excellent. It’s full of warmth, humor, and genuine heart, with memorable characters brought to life by fantastic performances and a truly captivating story.

If you’re a fan of superhero stories, particularly those with a darker tone like Invincible or The Boys, I highly recommend Dispatch. It also has a similar feel to the old Telltale Batman games, as many of the same developers worked on both.

I absolutely loved playing this game – it’s easily one of my highlights of the last year! Hopefully, I’ve convinced you to give it a try. Dispatch is available now on PC and PlayStation 5, so check it out!

Hey, so I’m trying to watch this YouTube video, but it’s blocked right now. Apparently, I need to sign out of Contentpass first to get it to play. A bit annoying, but I’ll try that and hopefully it works!
