In Marvel Comics, the Avengers are Earth and the universe’s main defenders. Over the years, the team has included a huge number of heroes – almost everyone has been an Avenger at some point! Because they face such powerful and dangerous villains – threats that can affect planets, universes, and even multiple realities – they need all the help they can get. These heroes, some with god-like powers or monstrous abilities, have rightfully earned their reputation as Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
The Avengers team is famous for having a hugely varied group of heroes, including those who fight crime on the streets and those who protect the entire universe. Even though some of them have incredible power that could easily corrupt them, they always try to do the right thing. This list highlights the strongest Avengers ever, from heroes who can bend reality to actual gods.
7) Doctor Strange
Doctor Strange, the master of magic in the Marvel Universe, is incredibly powerful. He can do almost anything, bending time and space, projecting his spirit, sending people to other dimensions, creating illusions, and even manipulating matter. He’s capable of amazing feats like making stars explode and bringing people back to life, and can protect himself with shields strong enough to survive supernovas. He can also become invisible, control others’ minds, and even alter reality with just a single word. Beyond all that, Doctor Strange has defeated immensely powerful foes like Dormammu, Nightmare, Galactus, and even Death. It’s hard to imagine anything he can’t do.
6) Sentry
While many Marvel characters resemble Superman, the Sentry is arguably the most powerful and potentially destructive. Enhanced by a super-soldier serum, he possesses nearly limitless strength and speed, can project energy blasts, and even control matter at a molecular level. He’s fought evenly against incredibly powerful beings like Galactus and the Worldbreaker Hulk, flown faster than time itself, and has even destroyed entire realms like Asgard. He’s defeated incredibly powerful villains like Molecule Man and ripped apart the god Ares. What makes the Sentry truly dangerous is his dark side: the Void. When the Void takes control, a terrifying and universe-threatening monster emerges. Even worse, the Sentry and the Void are virtually immortal – even if destroyed, they will inevitably return.
5) Thor
Thor, the Asgardian God of Thunder, is a supremely powerful being and one of the original Avengers. For millennia, he’s defended the Nine Realms using incredible strength and his legendary hammer, Mjolnir. He commands storms and consistently defeats cosmic threats, including powerful entities like the Phoenix Force, Celestials, Galactus, and even ancient gods. Thor’s strength is almost limitless – he’s lifted the massive Midgard Serpent and held up the weight of stars. One of his greatest accomplishments was overcoming the World Engine, a device containing Yggdrasil, the tree that connects all universes. When pushed to his limits, Thor can enter a state called Warrior Madness, multiplying his already immense power tenfold.
4) Storm
Storm is famous for being an X-Men member, but she also spent time as an Avenger. As an incredibly powerful mutant – classified as Omega-Level – she eventually gained the ability to become like a goddess. Storm completely controls the weather, easily creating devastating storms on Earth and even harnessing cosmic forces in space. Her powers grew infinitely when she became connected to Eternity, a being that is the universe itself. This made her so powerful that even Infinity, Eternity’s equally strong sister, was subject to Storm’s control. Storm has even destroyed Black Winter, a threat that consumed entire universes. She’s more than just a mutant; her power surpasses even that of traditional gods who control the weather.
3) Hulk
Among all the incredibly strong heroes in existence, the Hulk stands alone as the most powerful. Powered by gamma radiation and fueled by his boundless anger, he’s a force of pure destruction that can’t be stopped. The Hulk’s strength is limitless, growing stronger as he gets angrier. At his peak, he’s capable of planet-destroying feats, escaping even the most inescapable places, and creating shockwaves that ripple across countless dimensions. He’s even broken restraints stronger than Eternity itself. And even if the Hulk were to be defeated, his connection to gamma radiation ensures he’ll always return to life, no matter the cause of his demise.
2) Captain Universe
The Enigma Force is a powerful energy source created to safeguard the universe and Eternity itself. It grants its user limitless power and transforms them into Captain Universe. Tamara Devoux, who has lost her memories, became an Avenger to learn how to manage her incredible cosmic abilities and help protect the entire multiverse. As Captain Universe, she can achieve anything she imagines, control all forms of energy and matter across the universe, and even break down matter at the atomic level. She’s nearly all-knowing and is one of the few beings strong enough to face immense cosmic dangers like the Builders. Because she’s Eternity’s protector, she can also fight enemies that Eternity himself can’t handle.
1) Scarlet Witch
Scarlet Witch isn’t just the most powerful member of the Avengers – she’s one of the most powerful beings in the entire Marvel Multiverse. She controls Chaos Magic, making her a Nexus Being – essentially the center of all magic in Marvel, allowing her to manipulate all of reality and time itself. With a single thought, she can control everything, from space and souls to minds and reality. At her strongest, she’s defeated incredibly powerful forces like the Phoenix Force and imprisoned ancient gods. She’s even rewritten the universe and nearly wiped out all mutants simply by speaking. When she loses control, she poses a threat to the entire Marvel universe. Now, as the new Sorcerer Supreme, her abilities are set to become even greater.
