The Marvel Cinematic Universe boasts a huge cast of incredibly powerful characters, and fans love to debate who is the strongest. Starting with its first film in 2008, the MCU has expanded to include a vast number of heroes and villains from the Marvel comics, becoming the largest interconnected movie universe ever created. As the films adapt storylines from the comics, characters’ powers often change, sometimes becoming stronger and sometimes weaker. This constant shift in power levels makes it challenging to definitively say who the most powerful character in the MCU is.
While the Marvel Cinematic Universe has some clearly powerful heroes, many others possess surprising strength. It’s hard to create a precise ranking of the strongest characters, as their abilities aren’t always clearly explained in the movies. However, by looking at how they’re portrayed on screen and drawing on their comic book origins, we can get a good idea of who the most powerful characters in the MCU are.
7) Galactus

I was so blown away by Galactus in The Fantastic Four: First Steps! He instantly felt like one of the most powerful characters in the whole MCU. Seriously, a being who can just eat planets? That’s terrifying and makes him a seriously dangerous villain. Plus, he’s practically immortal and unbelievably strong – one of the most powerful beings we’ve seen yet!
6) Arishem

Arishem the Judge is undoubtedly one of the most powerful villains in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As an incredibly ancient Celestial being, he created the Eternals and uses them to guide the development of planets. His immense power far exceeds that of most characters in the MCU, solidifying his place as one of its strongest figures.
5) Eternity

Even the most powerful beings in the Marvel Cinematic Universe aren’t always villains. Eternity, who appeared briefly in Thor: Love and Thunder, possesses the ability to alter reality in countless ways. Though the movies haven’t fully explained how strong Eternity is, the comics portray this character as the very essence of time itself. It’s hard to say exactly how powerful Eternity is, but everything suggests they are among the strongest characters in the MCU.
4) Loki

I used to think Loki wasn’t one of the strongest aliens in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but wow, has he changed! He’s come a long way from just being a master of illusions. The end of Loki season 2 gave him a huge power-up. Now, he’s basically the God of Stories, and it’s his job to manage the entire Multiverse and keep all those different realities safe. It’s amazing to see how far he’s come!
3) The Watchers

The animated series What If…? introduced several alternate universes within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), all overseen by the character Uatu the Watcher. Uatu belongs to a race called the Watchers, who are incredibly powerful beings capable of observing countless realities simultaneously. While Watchers usually avoid getting involved, What If…? revealed they can intervene, and when they do, they display extraordinary abilities.
2) Death

Death’s first appearance in Agatha All Along was groundbreaking – not only as a confirmed LGBT character in the MCU, but also because it changed the power dynamics of the entire franchise. Presented as a powerful and intriguing being embodying death and decay, she easily overpowered both Wiccan and Agatha Harkness, hinting at a strength far beyond what we’ve seen. Essentially, very few forces in the Marvel Cinematic Universe could hope to defeat her.
1) Franklin Richards

Franklin Richards is potentially the most powerful hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, despite not having fully displayed his abilities yet. The movie Fantastic Four: First Steps suggested he’ll have powers similar to those in the comics, particularly by showing Galactus’s interest in him. In the comics, Franklin Richards has incredible powers to alter reality, is immortal, and possesses psychic abilities that rival even the most powerful mutants. If he has these same abilities in the MCU, he’s already a top-tier character in terms of strength.
