7 Supervillains Perfect for Doctor Doom’s Rumored Evil Team in Avengers: Doomsday

It’s been rumored that in the upcoming film Avengers: Doomsday, Doctor Doom could gather a powerful group of villains to challenge the Avengers within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Interestingly, Robert Downey Jr. is set to reappear in the MCU in 2024, but not as his iconic character Tony Stark/Iron Man. Instead, the mid-credits scene from The Fantastic Four: First Steps featured Downey’s first unaccredited appearance as Victor Von Doom, the infamous Marvel villain and ruler of Latveria known as Doctor Doom.

It’s anticipated that Doctor Doom will play a significant role in the events of the 2026 film, “Avengers: Doomsday,” and the 2027 film, “Avengers: Secret Wars.” Given that these movies are said to be influenced by Marvel Comics’ “Secret Wars” crossovers from 1984 and 2015, there have been whispers that Doctor Doom is set to assume the role of the God Emperor in the MCU during Phase 6. It’s possible he won’t act alone, though, if recent theories are correct, as some suggest Doctor Doom could be teaming up with famous supervillains, potentially including well-known adversaries.

7) King Thanos

Since the release of “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame,” Josh Brolin has frequently hinted at his potential return as the Mad Titan, Thanos, and has expressed his willingness to reprise the role. This suggests that Thanos could appear alongside Doctor Doom in the film “Doomsday,” offering an ideal chance for the MCU’s King Thanos to make his debut. In Marvel Comics, Thanos was crowned king after the universe’s heroes aged and weakened, causing widespread destruction. However, the King Thanos from the Avengers Campus theme park ride, “Avengers: Infinity Defense,” poses an even greater threat.

As a diehard fan, I can’t help but envision an exciting crossover scenario: The Thanos who triumphed over Earth in Endgame, the one who bested the Avengers, would make an outstanding partner for Doctor Doom in Doomsday. With his ingrained loathing for the Avengers and his insatiable thirst for power, Thanos would be a formidable ally indeed.

Remember, this version of Thanos was central to the Secret Wars event in Marvel Comics back in 2015, where he was a member of the Cabal. So, bringing him back into the MCU through such a collaboration would certainly add an intriguing twist to Josh Brolin’s return to our screens.

6) Steve Rogers’ Captain HYDRA

Since his departure from the MCU in Endgame, and more so after reprising his role as the Human Torch in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine, there have been persistent rumors about Chris Evans returning. There’s a chance he might return as Steve Rogers, Captain America’s original version, but there are also whispers that he could play a darker version of Rogers from another reality – possibly the HYDRA-brainwashed variant from Marvel Comics’ 2017 Secret Empire event. If this came to pass, Captain HYDRA would be an invaluable addition to Doctor Doom’s team, and it would be a thrilling way to reunite these original Avengers actors after seven years apart.

5) Bruce Banner’s Maestro

For quite some time, t One idea for making the Hulk more intense again in the MCU is by introducing a character called Maestro, who’s an evil version of the Hulk from the future. This could be done in the movie “Avengers: Doomsday” where he teams up with Doctor Doom. In the comics, Maestro is tough, twisted, and corrupt because he comes from a war-torn world. By portraying Maestro as a villain, it would give Mark Ruffalo new ways to play Bruce Banner in “Doomsday.

4) Reed Richards’ Maker

Following Pedro Pascal’s introduction as Earth 828’s Reed Richards in “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” there is anticipation that additional versions of Mister Fantastic might appear in the MCU. One possibility could be The Maker, a variant from Earth 1610’s Ultimate Marvel universe, who was portrayed as villainous and manipulative following a series of traumatic experiences. This Reed Richards played a significant role in the 2015 “Secret Wars” crossover event, making him an ideal fit for stories like “Doomsday” and “Secret Wars.” Given that Miles Teller’s Reed Richards from the 2015 “Fantastic Four” was based on The Maker, this could provide a chance for redemption.

3) Mephisto

In 2025’s “Ironheart”, Mephisto, the infamous demonic ruler of Hell from Marvel Comics, stepped into the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the first time, brilliantly portrayed by Sacha Baron Cohen. This short appearance has left fans craving more and the prospect of introducing the supervillain team in “Avengers: Doomsday” provides a ripe opportunity for Mephisto’s return. As a powerful entity in both the comics and the MCU, it would be thrilling to delve deeper into Mephisto’s character alongside other formidable villains. At this point, it remains uncertain when Cohen will reprise his role in the MCU, but we eagerly anticipate that he might do so as early as next year.

2) Ultron

In the upcoming “Vision Quest” series slated for 2026, James Spader is set to reprise his iconic role as Ultron. This return could potentially pave the way for Ultron’s appearance in “Avengers: Doomsday” as well. You might remember that Spader first gave voice to the menacing artificial intelligence character in “Avengers: Age of Ultron” back in 2015, although Ross Marquand has since voiced the character. With Spader’s comeback, Ultron could once again emerge as a formidable adversary in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Ultron’s control over mechanical drones and his unparalleled power make him one of Marvel’s most difficult villains to defeat. As such, he poses a significant threat to the heroes of the MCU during Phase 6.

1) Wanda Maximoff’s Scarlet Witch

The Multiverse Saga in the Marvel Cinematic Universe pushed Wanda Maximoff to her absolute limits, causing her to cross over into evil as she was tainted by the Darkhold, transforming into the malevolent Scarlet Witch. Although Wanda’s MCU portrayal by Elizabeth Olsen ended at the conclusion of 2022’s “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” hints about her return have been strong, and it’s possible she might reappear alongside Doctor Doom. Since Wanda marries Victor Von Doom with amnesia in the Marvel comics, this could be introduced in the MCU as a way to instantly make Doom an intimidating villain.
