7 Theories for The Boys Season 5 After Multiple Major Twists

The racers are set and ready to go as Season 5 of The Boys begins. Now that Season 2 of Gen V has finished, everything is in place for the final season of The Boys. Homelander remains the most powerful figure, eliminating anyone he perceives as a danger. However, a growing resistance is starting to challenge him. There’s even a new hero who’s as powerful as Homelander himself, fighting to make a difference.

Although the main goal in Season 5 of The Boys appears straightforward, the complex plot and numerous characters make it hard to predict what will happen. Many different characters – over a dozen, in fact – could potentially be the one to defeat Homelander, or he might not be defeated at all. Here are seven possible theories about what Season 5 holds, considering all the big surprises we’ve seen so far.

7) Soldier Boy Will Be the Key to Victory

A subtle but important moment in The Boys Season 4 is when Homelander discovers Soldier Boy frozen in a cryo chamber. While it’s unclear what Homelander intends to do with his rediscovered ‘father,’ he likely wants to team up. However, he may be misjudging how much Soldier Boy actually dislikes him. If Homelander isn’t careful, he could create a dangerous enemy – one that could help The Boys finally bring down Vought.

6) Ryan Butcher Won’t Appear in Season 5

One of the biggest unknowns as The Boys enters its final season is what will happen with Homelander’s son, Ryan Butcher. Billy Butcher attempts to get Ryan to join the fight against Homelander, but Ryan resists. He even vanishes at the end of Season 4, and may remain absent throughout the next season. Billy has the chance to protect Ryan by defeating Homelander and giving him a normal life. This could potentially lead to Ryan appearing in a future season of Gen V, perhaps as a student at the reformed God U.

5) Billy Butcher Doesn’t Die

Season 4 really shows Billy in a new light – he’s done holding back. And honestly, with a terminal brain tumor, he doesn’t have time to. He knows he needs to take down Homelander and protect the people he cares about, and fast. But a potential alliance with Marie Moreau, who has incredible healing powers, offers him a glimmer of hope – a way to fight and maybe even survive. Even Butcher, who’s usually so stubborn, is going to have to be sensible if Billy wants to avoid a grim fate. It’s a race against time, and everyone needs to work together.

4) The Guardians of Godolkin Take Over for The Seven

Marie is expected to be a major player in Season 5 of The Boys. At the end of Gen V Season 2, Starlight and A-Train bring her and her team, the Guardians of Godolkin, into the fight against Vought. They’re not just being offered a spot out of sympathy – the Guardians are a powerful group who could potentially defeat The Seven. As the conflict escalates, people will be looking for a new team to lead the way, and the Guardians, who have been training for years, are strong contenders. Plus, joining forces with Vought Tower likely seems like a much better situation than staying at God U.

3) A-Train Finally Runs Out of Steam

While it would be satisfying to see all the heroes survive in The Boys, that’s unlikely. Several characters will probably die in the final season, and A-Train could be among the first. A heroic sacrifice to save Hughie and the team would be a fitting end to his journey toward redemption. Plus, considering his past actions, it’s hard to imagine a place for him in the new world that emerges. Choosing to die on his own terms might be the best option for him.

2) Homelander Gets the Last Laugh

Homelander consistently threatens to destroy his enemies, and so far, he’s followed through on those threats. Because The Boys isn’t a traditional superhero story where heroes always win, it’s possible the villain could ultimately succeed in doing exactly what he promises. While it’s not certain – the show has plans for future seasons – it’s a possibility that shouldn’t be dismissed.

1) There Are No More Supes

Taking down Homelander won’t solve everything for the resistance – the bigger issue is that unstable individuals keep misusing their powers and harming the world. If The Boys truly wants lasting change, they’ll need to find a way to remove powers from everyone. While Season 3 of Gen V might seem slow at times, a surprising turn of events will grab viewers’ attention and show them what life would be like without superpowered people.
