The second season of *Peacemaker* ended with a lot of questions still unanswered, and fans are divided over the finale. As the latest entry in James Gunn’s new DC Universe – alongside shows like *Creature Commandos* and the new *Superman* movie – the season took the franchise in some exciting directions. It was fun to see the 11th Street Kids back, and there were definitely some surprising moments, but the finale left many plot threads hanging.
Season 2 of *Peacemaker* initially appeared to be building towards a huge showdown between Peacemaker (John Cena) and his alternate-dimension brother (David Denman). But the season finale, “Full Nelson,” unexpectedly shifted gears, prioritizing the setup of future storylines within the DC Universe over actually finishing Peacemaker’s story. As a result, the finale left many questions unanswered, and fans are hoping DC Studios will address them soon.
7) What Happened to Rick Flag Jr. On Earth X?
It was fun seeing Joel Kinnaman reprise his role as Rick Flag Jr., both in a flashback showing the events leading up to his death in *The Suicide Squad*, and again as a version of himself from an alternate reality called Earth X. This Earth X version of Flag Jr. was portrayed as awkward, clumsy, and a little jealous – he was Emilia Harcourt’s boyfriend. While he only appeared in one episode – season 2, episode 3, titled “Another Rick Up My Sleeve” – he wasn’t involved in the 11th Street Kids’ mission on Earth X. It would be interesting to find out what happened to him, and maybe even see him reconnect with his father, Rick Flag Sr. (played by Frank Grillo).
6) What is the Nature of Rick Flag Sr.’s Partnership With Lex Luthor?
Okay, so Nicholas Hoult is *really* leaning into the Lex Luthor role, and his appearance in the latest season of *Peacemaker* was a smart move. We saw him pop up in episode 6, “Ignorance is Chris,” where Rick Flag Sr. made a deal with him while Lex was still locked up at Belle Reve. What that deal *is* exactly remains a mystery, but the season finale heavily suggests Flag and Luthor are now working together – and closely – to explore those alternate dimensions inside Peacemaker’s Quantum Unfolding Chamber. Honestly, it feels like a clever setup for their future in *Man of Tomorrow* in 2027, and I’m starting to suspect their connection might be even more significant than we’ve seen so far. It’s a promising thread, and I’m definitely intrigued to see where it goes.
5) What Other Universes Can Be Accessed From the Quantum Unfolding Chamber?
Okay, so I was totally blown away by the QUC in *Peacemaker* Season 1, but Season 2 really expanded things! Turns out there are 99 different realities connected through this crazy gateway. Auggie Smith, played by Robert Patrick, actually claimed the QUC when Peacemaker and Keith were kids. And the worlds inside? Forget about it! We’re talking everything from a Nazi-controlled Earth to a Candyland overrun with imps, a universe with a black hole, a reality straight out of a Hieronymus Bosch painting, and even a zombie apocalypse! I’m really hoping we get to see even *more* of these alternate worlds, and I think the focus on Salvation in *Man of Tomorrow* might be just the thing to let us do that.
4) Where is Vigilante’s Brother?
I loved how Vigilante, aka Adrian Chase, became such a big part of the team in *Peacemaker*, and how close he got to Peacemaker! But it’s interesting to learn that Peacemaker actually befriended Adrian’s older brother, Gut, first. We’ve never *seen* Gut on screen, but everyone keeps talking about him – and it’s usually about how terrible he was to Adrian. Peacemaker’s even said his brother “really wasn’t good to him,” which explains a lot about why Peacemaker struggles to connect with people. It makes me wonder about Gut’s story, too – especially why he treated their mom, Taylor St. Clair, so badly. I’m hoping we get some answers eventually!
3) What Will Checkmate Do Differently to ARGUS?
The finale of *Peacemaker* season 2 saw the 11th Street Kids team up with Judomaster, Langston Fleury, and Sasha Bordeaux to create a new organization called Checkmate. This Checkmate, based on the DC Comics group founded by Amanda Waller, appears to be positioned as a counterforce to ARGUS, which is now focused on being anti-metahuman. James Gunn has emphasized Checkmate’s importance to the future of the DC Universe, but it’s currently unknown when we’ll see the group or its members again. While *Man of Tomorrow* seems like a possible next step, without confirmation of a third season of *Peacemaker*, their return remains uncertain.
2) How Will Peacemaker Return From Salvation? Will He Return At All?
During explorations with the Quantum Unfolding Chamber, a habitable and stable alternate universe was discovered and named Salvation by Rick Flag Sr. and ARGUS. They planned to use it as a prison for Earth’s metahumans, but first wanted to see how the world affected a human subject. As an act of spite, Flag Sr. sent Peacemaker to Salvation, effectively stranding him there and leaving his fate in the DC Universe unknown. It’s expected that the *Man of Tomorrow* series will likely revisit Salvation, potentially offering a way for Peacemaker to return, though this hasn’t been officially announced.
1) Will Captain Triumph Return as a Villain in the DCU’s Future?
One of the biggest questions left unanswered at the end of *Peacemaker* season 2 involves Earth X. After the 11th Street Kids delivered the QUC to ARGUS, the storyline about Earth X seemed to be dropped. The finale hinted at a conflict between Captain Triumph from Earth X and Peacemaker (Christopher Smith) – fueled by a personal vendetta involving their families – but this potential plotline was never explored. Earth X wasn’t mentioned at all in the season 2 finale, leaving Captain Triumph’s future uncertain. Fans are hoping David Denman will return as the character in future DCU projects, but it’s unclear how that could happen without another season of *Peacemaker*.
