The Marvel Cinematic Universe is packed with storylines – more than any single movie can handle. That’s why Marvel Studios creates team-up films like Avengers: Doomsday to bring everything together. This upcoming movie will likely connect to many different projects, with Thunderbolts and The Fantastic Four: First Steps currently appearing as the most important connections thanks to their post-credit scenes. However, Marvel might surprise us and highlight a different project instead.
As a huge Marvel fan, I’m always excited about what’s coming next, but it’s also a little sad to think about the projects that don’t make it. No matter how big Doomsday ends up being, some storylines just won’t get revisited. They’ll likely end up like so many others, shelved and forgotten. Here are seven MCU stories that never quite saw the light of day.
7) The Power Broker

Following the events of the Captain America movies, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier reunites Steve Rogers’ closest allies for a new adventure. They reconnect with Sharon Carter, who has been in hiding since Captain America: Civil War. Sharon initially warns them about a mysterious figure called the Power Broker and points them in a certain direction. However, it’s eventually revealed that Sharon is the Power Broker, and despite making threats, she hasn’t caused any further problems yet.
6) The Serpent Society

Originally, the plan for the third Captain America movie was to feature the Serpent Society, a villainous group from Marvel comics. However, the filmmakers decided the story possibilities of Civil War were more appealing. The Serpent Society wasn’t completely abandoned, though. Characters like King Cobra and Rattler were intended to appear in Captain America: Brave New World, and some scenes were even filmed with actors cast in those roles. Ultimately, the movie was significantly changed during production, and the Serpent Society was removed.
5) Captain Marvel’s Original Introduction

Captain Marvel’s introduction to the Marvel Cinematic Universe is now iconic. When Nick Fury starts to disappear in Avengers: Infinity War, he reaches out to his friend Carol Danvers for assistance, which led to her own movie and a role in Avengers: Endgame. Interestingly, Captain Marvel almost appeared much earlier! Plans were once made for her to show up at the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron with the other Avengers, but those in charge ultimately decided to hold off on her live-action debut for a little while longer.
4) Baron Mordo’s Warning

In the beginning of Doctor Strange’s 2016 film, he struggles to understand magic. Luckily, Karl Mordo helps him learn, and they become close friends. But when Strange misuses the Time Stone, Mordo becomes upset and dedicates himself to stopping people who abuse magical powers. He tells Strange they’ll meet again, but hasn’t returned yet (at least not in the main Marvel universe, Earth-616).
3) Taskmaster Lives

As a big Thunderbolts fan, I was honestly shocked when Taskmaster was taken out so early! Valentina clearly wanted to shake things up and see who was truly loyal, and it definitely worked. It was a bold move that really grabbed my attention. But get this – it wasn’t always planned that way! Apparently, the original script had Taskmaster sticking with the team for the whole ride and even going through a character arc of his own. I kind of wish we’d seen that, but I get why they went with the shocking twist we did get!
2) Mitchell Carson

In Captain America: The Winter Soldier, the villainous organization Hydra is exposed as having secretly infiltrated S.H.I.E.L.D. from the start. While Captain America and his team eliminate many of Hydra’s leaders, new ones emerge, including Mitchell Carson. He reappears in Ant-Man attempting to purchase the Yellowjacket suit. After the deal fails, he seizes the chance to steal a sample of Pym Particles, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe hasn’t yet shown what he plans to do with them.
1) The Ten Rings’ Beacon

It feels like the story introduced in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has been left behind. While Shang-Chi will be back in The Marvels (formerly Doomsday), giving Marvel another opportunity to develop his character, they also need to address the cliffhanger from Shang-Chi‘s post-credits scene. Remember when Wong, Captain Marvel, and Bruce Banner were discussing a mysterious signal from the Ten Rings? Someone or something must be responding to that signal, and we need to find out who or what it is.
