The biggest science fiction film still expected in 2025 is likely James Cameronâs third Avatar movie, Avatar: Fire and Ash. Following the 2009 film that introduced us to Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and the world of Pandora, and the 2022 sequel Avatar: The Way of Water which saw him clash with Quaritch (Stephen Lang) again, Fire and Ash will feature a new Naâvi tribe led by Varang (Oona Chaplin) as the struggles on Pandora intensify. The Avatar series is Cameronâs most important work, already delivering two of the most successful, visually stunning, groundbreaking, and exciting movies ever made. Fire and Ash, along with the planned fourth and fifth Avatar films, are expected to continue this legacy.
6) The Bride! (March 6, 2026)

Maggie Gyllenhaal’s upcoming film, The Bride!, which she wrote, co-produced, and directed, is a fresh take on the classic Frankenstein story. Inspired by both Mary Shelleyâs original novel and the 1935 film Bride of Frankenstein, the movie reimagines the tale in 1930s Chicago. The impressive cast includes PenĂ©lope Cruz, Jake Gyllenhaal, Peter Sarsgaard, Annette Bening as Dr. Euphronious, Christian Bale as the monster, and Jessie Buckley as the Bride. As only her second feature film as a director, The Bride! promises to be a unique, artistic, and powerful cinematic experience.
5) Project Hail Mary (March 20, 2026)

Based on Andy Weirâs 2021 novel, and written by Drew Goddard, Project Hail Mary has the potential to be as successful as Goddardâs previous adaptation of Weirâs work, The Martian. The film stars Ryan Gosling as Dr. Ryland Grace, the only survivor on a critical space mission to save Earth. He won’t be facing this challenge alone, however. Project Hail Mary is a classic sci-fi adventure that combines accurate science with imaginative, alien concepts to create a captivating story. The impressive cast also includes Sandra HĂŒller, Milana Vayntrub, and Ken Leung.
4) I Love Boosters (May 22, 2026)

Boots Riley, the director known for his acclaimed 2018 film Sorry to Bother You, is returning to theaters in 2026 with a new sci-fi comedy called I Love Boosters. 1) Dune: Part Three (December 18, 2026)

Although we won’t see the next installment in Denis Villeneuveâs Dune series for over a year, the announcement of a third movie is great news.
