The Power Rangers series has teamed up with many popular franchises over the last ten years, including the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Samurai Jack, Godzilla, and even the Justice League, and these collaborations have all been fantastic. However, the surprising and delightful crossover with Street Fighter that happened seven years ago stands out, and fans are eager for another one.
I’ve been a big fan of Power Rangers: Legacy Wars since it came out in 2017, and it’s awesome that they’re still adding new characters! I was totally shocked when they announced a crossover with Street Fighter! But it wasn’t just in the game – they made a whole short film called Power Rangers Legacy Wars: Street Fighter Showdown! It’s got Ryu, the Time Force Pink Ranger, the Phantom Ranger, Chun-Li, and a bunch of others, and it’s seriously epic. You can check out the full film below – I highly recommend it!
The Power Rangers Street Fighter Showdown Film Was Epic, And It Could Have Been An Entire Series

The short film released alongside the new ‘showdown’ event in Legacy Wars, and fans were surprised to see a full film featuring actors from the series as part of the launch. Bat in the Sun brought back Jason David Frank and Ciara Hanna to play their Power Ranger characters, and also included Ryu and Chun-Li from Street Fighter – making it even more exciting.
I was so thrilled to learn more about this epic crossover! It turns out Ninjor actually made a brand new Power Coin specifically to help the Rangers defeat M. Bison. Can you believe he just showed up in their world and teamed up with Rita Repulsa to take over everything? Rita even gave Bison her own Power Rangers army to help him! Luckily, that new Power Coin tipped the scales, and it was Ryu who got to wield its power. What a team-up!
This change gives him a new Ryu Ranger look – a mostly white and red costume with a gold shield. Powered up, this new Ryu joins forces with Chun-Li, Tommy, and Gia to fight M. Bison in an exciting battle. The episode ends by hinting at an even larger fight between the two teams, but unfortunately, we don’t get to see it.
The short film was a pleasant surprise, and Hasbro created Lightning Collection action figures based on it. These figures included versions of Ryu and a special, powered-up Chun-Li that didn’t appear in the film itself. In fact, Chun-Li’s unique “Ranger” form was first revealed through the toy line.
The series concluded in a way that left a lot of potential on the table. It could have easily continued with more episodes and exciting fights featuring additional characters from Mighty Morphin and Street Fighter – imagine Squatt battling Vega, or a Ranger version of Chun-Li facing off against Blanka! Both franchises have plenty of characters to support multiple seasons, but it looks like this crossover is finished for now.
Fortunately, Legacy Wars hasn’t been forgotten, and you can watch the complete short film in the video provided.
