Thrillers are constantly popular, with new movies and shows like The Asset, The Woman in Cabin 10, and A House of Dynamite frequently topping streaming charts. Now, a thriller starring Henry Cavill that originally came out nearly ten years ago is seeing a surge in popularity. Even though it received poor reviews (just 14% on Rotten Tomatoes), it’s currently one of the most-watched titles on Paramount+.
The film Night Hunter, also called Nomis, features Henry Cavill, Stanley Tucci, Ben Kingsley, and Alexandra Daddario. While the story of a police task force taking down an online predator isn’t new, they quickly realize the crimes are far more complex than anticipated. Despite a talented cast, the movie feels predictable and relies heavily on familiar crime thriller tropes. One critic noted that viewers could practically play ‘crime cliche bingo’ while watching, as the film hits many predictable beats.
It’s Definitely a Mixed Bag

Leslie Felperin from The Guardian described the film as silly but strangely enjoyable, though she worried, like with many vigilante movies, that it seemed to focus on sexual violence while pretending to be about justice. This appears to be the general opinion: the film is visually flashy but lacks depth, and seems to dwell on sexual violence unnecessarily. One critic put it succinctly, noting the film doesn’t seem to have any complex artistic intention, instead arriving at confusing moments by accident.
Despite being a low-budget action film that likely would have gone straight to video in the past, the movie surprisingly attracted some talented actors. While it’s flawed, some viewers found it enjoyable. One person commented that it had a lot of potential and a great cast, but suffered from noticeable plot holes and illogical moments – like characters entering buildings without backup – though they still enjoyed parts of it. Another viewer admitted it was bad, but still fun, praising the strong opening scene with a chase and a sense of despair. They also liked many of the actors, but found the police storyline unrealistic, particularly the commissioner ordering a detective to kill suspects.
I’m really curious to hear what everyone thinks of Night Hunter! Let me know your thoughts in the comments below, and then we can all check out what other movie fans are saying over on the ComicBook forum.
