It’s understandable that small details get overlooked when you assemble so many superheroes for a big finale. This is especially true for a massive movie like Avengers: Endgame in the Marvel Cinematic Universe – coordinating hundreds of actors, keeping secrets (we’re thinking of you, Tom Holland!), and wrapping up so many storylines is a huge undertaking. We get that mistakes happen, but there’s one moment from Endgame that still makes us chuckle, and likely always will. Honestly, we’re not even mad about it – everyone could use a laugh after everything that happened in the fight against Thanos.
The finale of Avengers: Endgame was unlike anything audiences had seen before, bringing almost every known Marvel character together in an enormous battle. It wasn’t just a fight to save Earth, but a struggle for the fate of half the universe, and Earth’s heroes answered the call. With so much happening at once, there were some surprising moments, like when Ant-Man seemingly appeared in two places at the same time.
Avengers: Endgame & The Tale of Two Ant-Men

The final battle in Avengers: Endgame revolved around a single object – the Infinity Gauntlet. Everyone was either trying to obtain it or prevent Thanos from getting it. Ant-Man and Wasp then came up with a plan to ensure Thanos could never use the Gauntlet again.
Hank Pym and Hope van Dyne decide their best bet is to locate Luis’ old van—specifically, the Quantum Tunnel hidden inside it. Their idea is to use the tunnel to send the Infinity Gauntlet somewhere Thanos could never reach. So, they shrink down to a minuscule size and weave through the chaotic battle to find the van.
This leads to a slightly confusing scene. Shortly after, we see Black Panther bravely running through the fight to protect the Gauntlet – a bold move, to say the least. But something odd is happening in the background: a few seconds later, Giant-Man appears and starts fighting one of the massive Leviathans.
Is anyone else noticing something strange here? Ant-Man appears in two different scenes – looking for a van and battling a monster simultaneously. And there’s a huge size difference between the two versions of him. Since the Ant-Man searching for the van had already shrunk, it doesn’t make sense that he’d suddenly be involved in the fight.
Paul Rudd’s Take on Endgame’s Mistake

Let’s be honest, this was likely just an oversight. With so many teams collaborating to create a massive and intense battle scene, it’s understandable that a small detail – like where Ant-Man was supposed to be – could have been missed.
The scene caused enough discussion – some people found it funny, others were bothered by it – that it eventually reached Paul Rudd, who plays Ant-Man. Ali Plumb from BBC Radio 1 brought it to Rudd’s attention, giving him a chance to explain. Rudd believes the scene wasn’t an error at all, but a hidden reference, or ‘Easter Egg,’ to the plot of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
Following this idea, it’s possible there were actually two Ant-Men present during the big fight in Avengers: Endgame. If Ant-Man had access to Kang’s powers to manipulate reality and pull off a heist, this could explain it. It’s unclear why Ant-Man would need to be at that specific battle, or why he was fighting a Leviathan, but it could all be connected to this larger plan.
It’s just plain funny to imagine lots of different Ant-Men all fighting in the same battle! It would definitely confuse the enemy, if they even noticed. Moments like these are a welcome bit of lightheartedness, especially considering everything that happened in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Ultimately, whether it was a mistake or a fun little hidden detail doesn’t matter – it made us happy, and that’s what counts.
