As a huge Marvel fan, I’m honestly a little worried about where the MCU is headed right now. It feels different than how confident things were before Avengers: Endgame. There’s been a lot going on – from changes to who the big bad guy is and why, to some of the recent shows and movies just not hitting the mark with either critics or fans. It’s like a lot of things are uncertain at the moment, and I’m hoping they can get back on track!
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has a lot of unanswered questions right now, more than usual, because several storylines are up in the air. While many of these seem unlikely to be resolved, a few feel like they’re about to be. These answers might not be the biggest plot points, but we’re probably going to get some resolution soon.
Monica In The X-Men Universe
The Marvels was a bit of a divisive movie, getting mixed reactions from both critics and viewers. For the most part, the film felt self-contained and didn’t seem to set up anything major for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, the ending included two scenes that changed that. In one, Monica Rambeau sealed a tear in space, but ended up getting stuck on the other side.
The scene after the credits showed Monica waking up in an alternate reality where her mother was still alive. Surprisingly, Beast from the X-Men was also present, hinting at their existence in this new world. This is a major development for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, officially bringing the X-Men into the story after it was established in Ms. Marvel that Kamala Khan is a mutant.
We haven’t heard anything more about this yet, but it looks like we’ll get answers in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie. Several actors and characters from the original X-Men films will be appearing, including Kelsey Grammer as Beast. This suggests we’ll finally see the consequences of that surprising moment.
Sharon Is The Power Broker
Okay, so as a Marvel fan, I have to admit not everything hits it out of the park. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier on Disney+ was… a bit divisive. It brought back Sharon Carter, who we hadn’t seen since Civil War – like, five years had passed in-universe! And honestly, the big twist at the end – that she was the one pulling all the strings as the villain – was a pretty shocking reveal, and not necessarily in a good way for some people.
The reveal wasn’t much of a surprise, as the show had already hinted at it and most fans had guessed correctly. Since then, the character has only appeared in one episode of What If…? While her descent into villainy is logical considering the events of Captain America: Civil War, it felt like a minor plot point.
We’re finally expecting some clarity in the new series, VisionQuest. There’s talk that Emily VanCamp will reprise her role as Sharon, which should reveal more about her identity as the Power Broker. It will be fascinating to see how her character interacts with Vision, as they haven’t shared any scenes before.
The Young Avengers Coming Together
Fans began anticipating the Young Avengers team-up as soon as specific characters showed up in different Phase 4 Marvel projects. The MCU subtly hinted at the team’s formation across Disney+ shows, introducing characters like Wanda’s sons, Kid Loki, Patriot, Kate Bishop, and Kamala Khan.
After a period of inactivity, the idea of a young hero team resurfaced in the final scenes of The Marvels. Kamala Khan visits Kate Bishop, hinting at the formation of a team – similar to how Nick Fury appeared at the end of the first Iron Man movie in 2008. This moment confirmed that the Young Avengers were becoming a reality.
The team, consisting of Kamala and Kate, could expand to include characters we’ve seen before, plus new additions like Cassie Lang and America Chavez. While there’s no official word on when these characters might appear, it seems likely we’ll see them in a project soon, possibly a TV series rather than a film.
Bucky & Sam’s Issues Over The Avengers
Bucky Barnes and Sam Wilson have shared a complex relationship throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Starting as reluctant partners due to their mutual connection with Steve Rogers, they developed a strong bond in their own TV series after Rogers’ retirement, culminating in Sam officially taking on the mantle of Captain America.
Bucky had a surprisingly small role in Captain America: Brave New World and reappeared in Thunderbolts. That film introduced him as a central member of a new team – one that functions more like a family than typical MCU groups – and which the public believes is the new Avengers.
The end of Thunderbolts included a brief moment where Bucky said his talk with Sam about forming a new Avengers team didn’t go as planned. It’s odd we didn’t actually see that conversation, but it looks like the fallout will be a major part of Avengers: Doomsday, as both actors will be in that movie.
Clea Teaming With Doctor Strange
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness didn’t seem to have much lasting impact. Aside from a brief mention of Wanda’s son in the Agatha All Along series, we haven’t heard much about any of the characters – not Doctor Strange, America Chavez, or even Wanda Maximoff – since the film’s release, except for Wong.
The scene after the credits of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hinted at a big new storyline. Clea, played by Charlize Theron, appeared and explained that Strange’s actions caused a dangerous event called an incursion. She needs his help, and the film ends with him following her into the Dark Dimension, suggesting she’ll be an important character in future movies.
We haven’t heard much about Clea or Doctor Strange recently, but this news probably connects to what’s coming next for Strange in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He’s expected to play a significant role in future Avengers films—possibly Doomsday or Secret Wars—and Clea will likely be involved as well.
America Chavez At Kamar-Taj
In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, America Chavez quickly became a fan favorite. With her power to move between different universes, she’s a key player in the unfolding Multiverse Saga, and many believe she’ll have a significant role to play in future Marvel stories.
Last time we saw America Chavez, she was learning to control her abilities while training with the sorcerers at Kamar-Taj. Since Wong appears in many Marvel movies and shows, it makes sense America would be connected to Kamar-Taj whenever it’s mentioned.
Since we talked about the Young Avengers, it’s important to show America Chavez’s training at Kamar-Taj and how her powers have developed. Becoming more skilled will make her a valuable asset to the team’s future missions.
Namor Working With Wakanda
A common criticism of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is that its villains often lack depth. However, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever broke that pattern. Tenoch Huerta gave an outstanding performance as Namor, the ruler of the underwater kingdom of Talokan.
Although Shuri defeated Namor and became the new Black Panther, he survived and hinted at a potential future partnership between his people and Wakanda. The upcoming cast list for Avengers: Doomsday is expected to reveal more details about this alliance.
While we anticipated most of the cast, Tenoch Huerta’s involvement was unexpected. This suggests that Shuri’s team – probably alongside Sam Wilson – will include Namor. Given Namor’s history with Sue Storm in the comics, it will be fascinating to see how he interacts with the Fantastic Four.
The Ten Rings Beacon
It’s surprising we haven’t seen more of Shang-Chi in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since his first movie in 2021. The character was well-received, Simu Liu did a fantastic job playing him, and the ending hinted at exciting possibilities for the future.
In that scene, Shang-Chi and his friend Katy met with Wong to discuss the Ten Rings, which Shang-Chi now possessed. Working with Carol Danvers and Bruce Banner, they realized the rings were sending out a signal, attracting something unknown.
This unresolved issue has lingered for years. However, with both Tenoch Huerta and Simu Liu appearing in Avengers: Doomsday, we’re likely to finally learn the purpose of the beacon, what the future holds for Simu Liu’s character, and the fate of the Ten Rings.
