8 Omega-Level Mutants To Expect in the MCU’s X-Men Reboot

Fans are excited about the potential for eight of Marvel’s most powerful mutants to appear in the upcoming X-Men reboot from Marvel Studios, finally bringing these iconic characters into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With development of the X-Men movie already in progress and Jake Schreier, director of Thunderbolts*, now leading the project, anticipation is building. However, Marvel Studios hasn’t announced any casting decisions yet, so it remains to be seen which mutants from the comics will be featured in the new film.

While Marvel hasn’t officially confirmed anything, it’s highly probable that some of the most powerful mutants from the comics – known as omega-level mutants – will appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. First mentioned in 1986’s *Uncanny X-Men #208* by Chris Claremont, these mutants possess extraordinary abilities with nearly unlimited potential. Writer Jonathan Hickman later defined an omega-level mutant as someone whose primary power has no known upper limit.

Marvel Comics features over 30 mutants with incredibly powerful abilities, known as omega-level mutants, and many are key members of the X-Men. While it’s improbable that the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) reboot of *X-Men* will introduce so many at once, a few are likely candidates. Here are eight of the most probable omega-level mutants we might see in the new *X-Men* movie, and they have the potential to significantly raise the stakes in the MCU.

8) Bobby Drake’s Iceman

Bobby Drake, played by Shawn Ashmore in the Fox X-Men movies, didn’t get the spotlight he deserved, but Marvel Studios has a chance to change that. Iceman is a key member of the X-Men in the comics, so he should be a major character in the MCU’s upcoming reboot. This would be a great opportunity to show the full extent of his powers – like creating ice armor, turning into water, and controlling his size and strength with water – which were never fully explored in the previous films. He’s an incredibly powerful mutant, capable of even existing as water vapor, and the MCU can finally showcase that.

7) Gabriel Summers’ Vulcan

Although Cyclops and Havok (Scott and Alex Summers) are well-known, it would be fantastic to see their often-overlooked brother, Vulcan, included as well. Gabriel Summers is the most powerful mutant in his family, possessing incredible energy manipulation abilities. After his mother, Katherine Summers, was killed, he was raised by Moira MacTaggert. Vulcan’s power lets him control vast amounts of energy, and even absorb energy from other mutants, making him a potentially disruptive and exciting character for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

6) Jean Grey’s Marvel Girl

Previous attempts to portray Jean Grey haven’t quite captured the character’s full potential, so Marvel Studios faces the challenge of doing her justice. First known as Marvel Girl, Jean is incredibly powerful, with abilities like telepathy and telekinesis that are comparable to Professor X. She can read minds, communicate with anyone – even animals – and manipulate memories. When she connected with the powerful Phoenix Force, her abilities became nearly limitless, and a reimagined version could become one of Marvel’s strongest characters in the MCU.

5) Ororo Munroe’s Storm

Storm’s powers have already been hinted at in the MCU through the Goddess of Thunder in *What If…?* season 3, giving us a preview of her live-action arrival. Like many mutants previously portrayed by Fox, Storm’s full potential – particularly her incredibly powerful weather manipulation – hasn’t been shown on screen. Given her family’s history with magic and the god-like nature of her abilities, the upcoming live-action version of Storm has the opportunity to showcase truly impressive and visually stunning displays of power, going beyond just creating big storms and exploring the full range of what she can do.

4) Jamie Braddock’s Monarch

With rumors swirling about Captain Britain joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, his twin sister Psylocke might also appear. But beyond them, Marvel has a chance to introduce a new mutant: Jamie Braddock, the older sibling. Known as Monarch, Jamie is incredibly powerful – an ‘omega-level’ mutant who can warp reality around him. He sees the world as malleable quantum energy, which he can reshape as he pleases. His sister, Betsy, once said he has a complete grasp of his abilities, and it would be amazing to see that power demonstrated in the MCU.

3) Max Eisenhardt’s Magneto

As a huge X-Men fan, I’m almost positive we’re going to see Magneto in the new Marvel reboot! He’s always been their biggest enemy, and he’s so much more than just someone who moves metal around. He actually controls magnetic fields, can send out powerful electromagnetic pulses, and even shields himself with magnetic force. Plus, he can create magnetic wormholes to travel and protect his mind from psychic attacks. Both Ian McKellen and Michael Fassbender were amazing as Magneto in the old movies, but I really think the MCU version will be even closer to how powerful he is in the comics.

2) Charles Xavier’s Professor X

When Marvel Studios reboots the X-Men, introducing Charles Xavier, also known as Professor X, is crucial. As the leader and founder of the X-Men, he’s essential to the future of Marvel’s mutant stories. Professor X is incredibly powerful, with unmatched telepathic abilities – he can read and control minds, access memories, and even take over other people’s thoughts. He can also use Cerebro to extend his mental reach, and his brilliant intellect makes him a truly compelling character to add to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

1) Franklin Richards’ Powerhouse

A remarkably powerful character from Marvel Comics, Franklin Richards, has already appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He was introduced in the 2025 film, *The Fantastic Four: First Steps*. While his comic book version is known as a reality-bending mutant, this Franklin-the son of Reed and Sue Richards from an alternate universe-possesses the Power Cosmic. He could still be revealed as a mutant within the MCU and is expected to play a major role in future *X-Men* films, potentially as Powerhouse. Franklin has the incredible ability to make anything he imagines become real, and can even manipulate matter to create entire universes. Fans are eager to see how his powers and story develop over time in the MCU.
