Shueisha’s digital manga platform, Shonen Jump+, is updating the release schedule for its popular series Oblivion Battery. Launched in 2014, Shonen Jump+ offers a wide variety of manga to fans worldwide. Oblivion Battery, a highly-regarded sports drama by Eco Mikawa that began in 2018, previously released new chapters every two weeks. However, a recent announcement on the official Shonen Jump+ X account confirmed that it will now release new chapters monthly, starting after Chapter 186 was released on March 5th (Japan Standard Time). The change is due to scheduling and is not related to the author’s health.
After talking with Mikawa, the platform has adjusted its release schedule. They’ve assured fans they’ll be notified of any further changes. This is the first time in eight years that the release schedule for Oblivion Battery has been altered, and it’s currently unclear if the change is permanent. The anime adaptation, produced by MAPPA, debuted in 2024, and a second season is now in production. While the exact release date is still to come, Season 2 is expected to premiere in 2027. A first glimpse of the new season, including a teaser visual, was revealed at Jump Festa 2026, but a full trailer hasn’t been released yet.
What Is Oblivion Battery About?

I’m so excited about this story! It centers around a group of baseball players who used to be teammates way back in middle school, and now they’re reconnecting in high school. Haruka Kiyomine and Kei Kaname were legendary – seriously, everyone talked about their pitcher-catcher combo! Kaname was a genius at calling the game, and Kiyomine could throw – they really thought they had what it took to go pro. But they were so good, they kind of intimidated a lot of other players, including this new freshman named Taro Yamada who just started at Kotesashi High. I can’t wait to see how his story unfolds with these guys!
Taro was surprised to find Haruka and Kei in his first-year classes. Even more surprisingly, Kei had lost his memory and become the class clown, completely losing his passion for sports. Haruka was only at the school because Kei convinced him to enroll, as it was nearby. Taro, who had previously looked up to both of them, was saddened to see them give up on their athletic talents.
With the creation of a new baseball club at school, he’s determined to get talented players back into the sport. The anime is available to watch on Crunchyroll and Prime Video. Fans can also read the manga on Manga Plus, which currently has 186 chapters released across 23 volumes. However, an English version of the manga isn’t available yet.
