It’s been eight years since *Thor: Ragnarok* came out in 2017, and Marvel Studios still hasn’t followed through on a promising hint about a popular character from Marvel Comics. While Marvel has suggested the arrival of many famous characters in their movies, one of the most anticipated came in *Thor: Ragnarok*. The movie revealed the existence of a truly great hero, but we haven’t actually seen them appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe yet.
In *Thor: Ragnarok*, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) loses everything and finds himself stranded on the junk planet Sakaar. While there, he unexpectedly meets up with Bruce Banner’s Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), who has become a celebrated champion for the Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum), Sakaar’s cruel ruler. But the Hulk isn’t the only champion; a statue of his head joins others on a tower, including Beta Ray Bill—a character fans have long hoped will become an official part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
How Beta Ray Bill Could Fit Into the MCU

In Marvel comics, Beta Ray Bill is a Korbinite who had his mind transferred into a powerful, horse-like robotic body after his home galaxy was destroyed. He first clashed with Thor, but surprisingly proved himself worthy of wielding the enchanted hammer Mjolnir. The two quickly became allies once they understood each other. Beta Ray Bill eventually wielded the weapon Stormbreaker, and its appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since *Avengers: Infinity War* hinted at his eventual introduction.
In *Thor: Ragnarok*, we briefly see Bill’s head on the Grandmaster’s tower, hinting he’d left Sakaar before Thor and Bruce Banner even got there. Fans have long wondered when this powerful cosmic warrior would appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Given his history in the comics – he’s been part of teams like the Guardians of the Galaxy and the Thor Corps – there are many potential ways for Beta Ray Bill to finally make his live-action debut.
Back in 2017, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige revealed that Beta Ray Bill was originally planned for a brief appearance in *Thor: Ragnarok* (according to *IGN*). He explained they cut the cameo because it wasn’t developed enough, preferring to introduce the character properly at a later time. While this suggested Beta Ray Bill would appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe eventually, that hasn’t happened, even after eight years. There’s speculation he might debut in the upcoming *Avengers: Doomsday* or *Avengers: Secret Wars* movies, but Marvel hasn’t confirmed anything yet.
