Even though the second season of the Blue Lock anime sparked some debate, the series remains incredibly popular. The manga, which began in 2018, has become a huge success, selling over 50 million copies around the world. It quickly gained recognition, winning a Kodansha Manga Award in 2021. In 2023, after the anime premiered, Blue Lock became the best-selling manga of the year, even outselling popular titles like Jujutsu Kaisen and One Piece. The ongoing manga is written by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and illustrated by Yusuke Nomura, with new chapters released weekly in Weekly Shonen Magazine. Kaneshiro has been creating manga for over ten years, working on various series and short stories.
Though Blue Lock is his biggest hit, many fans would likely point to Jagaan as the author’s second most well-known work. This supernatural horror manga began in 2017, just before Blue Lock. After several years, Jagaan, illustrated by Kensuke Nishida, will finally be available in English starting September 2026. Abrams ComicArts announced on X that the first volume will be printed in English for the first time. The manga concluded in 2021 with a total of 14 volumes, and if the first volume does well, the rest of the series will likely be translated and released soon. Given its intriguing story and the author’s reputation, Jagaan is sure to attract a lot of readers.
What Is The Plot of Jagaan?

Jagaan is a manga series aimed at young adult men, published in Shogakukan’s Big Comic Spirits. It centers on Shintaro Jagasaki, a discontented police officer who’s tired of his mundane existence. Despite appearing normal – he’s even planning to get married and often acts silly – Shintaro harbors a hidden, violent side. He frequently imagines harming those who irritate him, inspired by the violent actions of his unlikely hero: the town’s eggplant mascot. His already disliked routine is shattered when he witnesses a horrific murder committed by someone wearing a monstrous mask.
Shintaro was devastated after his partner died, and he felt like he’d wasted his life. In a last-ditch effort to survive an attack, he fired a powerful shot, not expecting it to work. Surprisingly, it did save him, but it came at a cost: his arm is now covered in an unknown, strange substance.
I was absolutely floored when this owl – seriously, an owl! – told me the story behind the monster. Apparently, it used to be a person, but got infected by something called a Mad Xenopus – this creepy, frog-like thing that takes over your body and completely changes you. After seeing all that, I just wanted to forget it ever happened, but things went from bad to worse when the Xenopus started controlling my girlfriend! Now, I have no choice – I have to fight back against these creatures and try to save everyone who’s been turned into a monster, or we’re all doomed.
