In Episode 5 of “Dexter: Resurrection,” it appears that the storyline is hinting at a melancholic destiny for Dexter Morgan. When we were introduced to Dexter in the initial episode of the original series, we discovered that he thought himself incapable of feeling genuine emotions. His life was essentially a mask concealing his intense desire to kill. His job provided him with an opportunity to vet potential killers and manipulate the system to provide fresh victims, while his minimalist lifestyle showed few hobbies apart from bowling, and he had a girlfriend who served as a diversion for suspicions about his true nature. Over time, Dexter gradually accepted his humanity and even got married and had a child.
It’s well-known that the fourth season of ‘Dexter’ ended on a grim note for his storyline, with Rita Morgan getting killed, and their son witnessing it. However, in Season 5, there was hope for romance as he met Lumen, but she eventually departed at the end of that season because she wasn’t driven by vengeance or justice like Dexter. Throughout the series, Dexter has had relationships with characters like Lila, Hannah, and Angela Bishop in ‘Dexter: New Blood’, but none have lasted due to various reasons. Regrettably, Episode 5 of ‘Dexter: Resurrection’ seems to further illustrate Dexter’s misfortune when it comes to women.

Dexter: Resurrection May Hint at Dexter’s Inability to Have a Relationship
In Episode 5 of the series “Dexter: Resurrection,” entitled “Murder Horny,” Dexter develops romantic feelings for Mia, one of the serial killers he encountered at Prater’s party. He feels a bond with Mia because she targets sexual predators based on a code. Intrigued by what he perceives as a sense of nobility in her actions, Dexter imagines a promising future for them. After going out on a few dates, Mia proposes to Dexter that they commit a murder together. However, she reveals that she’s not overly selective about their target and is primarily driven by an urge to act, regardless of the harm inflicted upon others. It becomes evident that Mia lacks any moral compass and is more focused on satisfying her desires.
Dexter is greatly disturbed by this turn of events and comes to understand that Hannah isn’t the right match for him. Later, he falsely accuses her of murdering Ryan Foster, leading to her arrest. Given Dexter’s age in his 50s and numerous attempts at relationships with both killers and innocent women, it seems like true love may elude him. Hannah was likely the closest thing he could find to love after Rita’s passing, but even that relationship had complications as she tried to harm Deb.
As a devoted cinephile, I find it hard to imagine Dexter returning to a life anything close to normal after the series of events that have unfolded. Consequently, it’s unlikely he’ll form a relationship with someone like Rita in the future. Instead, his prospects might lie with another killer or criminal, but as Harry points out, there’s no one else quite like Dexter. Any potential match would probably adhere to Dexter’s code, making them an unconventional choice for a romantic interest. Perhaps a subsequent season will introduce a love interest who understands and accepts Dexter for who he is, enabling him to be open and honest. However, it seems that we may have to wait some time before we witness such a development.
