Todd Chrisley, Julie Chrisley Detail Reunion After 28 Months in Prison

Todd Chrisley and Julie Chrisley found strength in one another.

The pair thought back on their initial encounter, having met again after a gap of 28 months since receiving clemency from former President Donald Trump, during their terms of incarceration.

Julie clarified in a segment from the June 28th episode of “My View With Lara Trump”, “It felt quite unusual,” she elaborated. “Many have wondered, ‘Was it strange? Was it uncomfortable?’ But honestly, it wasn’t.

Despite being separated geographically due to their prison terms – 12 years for Todd in Florida and 7 years for Julie in Kentucky – Todd didn’t feel as if he was emotionally distant from his wife of 28 years.

He shared with Lara Trump that he had always been connected to her, as she resided within his heart throughout their separation. Each moment of his day was filled with thoughts about her. Consequently, when they finally embraced for the first time, it felt like coming back home.

Truth be told, I hadn’t exactly been gone,” I expressed. “I returned to find the very same woman who I bid farewell. By ‘the same,’ I mean, she remains the embodiment of my heart and soul.

The individual, aged 56, who has children including Chase Chrisley (28), Savannah Chrisley (27), Grayson Chrisley (18), Chloe Chrisley (11) with partner Julie, and Lindsie Chrisley (35) and Kyle Chrisley (33) with former spouse Teresa Terry, admitted that life upon release from prison would probably be unlike when they initially entered.

He stated, “We’ve evolved, and had we not adapted during these past 28 months, our efforts would have been in vain.

In this fresh phase with his loved ones, the family patriarch maintains his belief in his own innocence. To clarify, he firmly asserts that he is not guilty of the charges leveled against him – tax evasion and wire fraud – for which he and Julie were found guilty in 2022.

At the May press conference, Todd expressed regret about any actions he might have taken, saying, “It could bring remorse upon me.” He also emphasized that the corruption uncovered in their case would keep revealing more details.

During the press conference, TopMob News attempted to get a response from the Department of Justice, yet they chose not to provide any comments.

Although Todd insists on his innocence, he acknowledges it was Savannah’s persistent efforts that eventually secured their freedom.

He expressed from the stage, “She’s waged a tough battle, and it’s both rewarding and painful for any parent to witness their child exert such effort. It’s a source of pride, but at the same time, it hurts because as a parent, you want to protect your children by fighting for them instead.

For a closer look at Todd and Julie’s legal battle, keep reading.

In August 2019, a federal grand jury in Atlanta charged Todd Chrisley and his wife Julie with 12 counts, including wire fraud, conspiring to commit bank fraud, and deceiving the United States government. These allegations were reported by NBC News based on a grand jury indictment. The prosecution asserts that the fraudulent activities started in the mid-2000s and encompassed attempts to evade approximately $2 million in state taxes from 2008 to 2016, as well as hiding over $1 million from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

A day prior to the indictment, Todd asserted that he and his spouse were not guilty. Instead, he suggested that a loyal worker was embezzling from and extorting them.

He expressed in an Instagram post that there’s no secret or cause for embarrassment on his part. In fact, he confidently states that not only is he certain of his innocence, but he also possesses substantial proof and numerous supporting witnesses to validate this claim.

Three years passed before the stars of “Chrisley Knows Best” stood trial. Over a span of three weeks, their testimonies were heard. Despite pleading not guilty, they were found guilty on all charges related to tax evasion and bank fraud on June 7, 2022.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office claimed that the pair, together with their accountant Peter Tarantino (who was tried alongside them), were involved in a scheme to deceive banks out of approximately $30 million over a ten-year period.

Keri Farley, FBI Atlanta’s Special Agent in Charge, stated in a June 2022 declaration: ‘Today’s results underscore the fact that no matter how famous or affluent you are, dishonesty, deceit, and theft will never evade justice.’ In the long run, when motivated by greed, the conviction of all charges against these three defendants serves as a reminder that unlawful financial activities will not lead to prosperity.

Five months on, I’m still reeling from the news that our beloved hero, Todd, has been handed a 12-year sentence by the Northern District of Georgia, while his partner, Julie, received a seven-year term. And as for Peter, he’ll serve three years in prison. It’s hard to believe, but justice, it seems, is being served!

For approximately ten years, the accused individuals swindled banks out of a staggering sum of more than tens of millions of dollars. At the same time, they avoided paying their federal taxes. As stated by U.S. Attorney Ryan K. Buchanan in November 2022, their substantial prison terms underscore the gravity of their criminal actions and should act as a deterrent to anyone contemplating similar illegal activities targeting our nation’s community banking system for illicit personal profits.

In September 2023, the lengths of Julie’s and Todd’s sentences were reduced. Specifically, Julie is now set to be discharged one year and three months ahead of schedule, while Todd will be released two years prior to his initially planned 2035 release date.

As a lifestyle expert, I can confidently say that Todd and Julie are exemplary individuals who find themselves serving extended sentences. In the conversations I had with them in September 2023, their attorney, Jay Surgent, shared some insight. He mentioned that Todd is now facing only a decade-long sentence, while Julie’s term has been reduced to five years.

In January 2023, the pair began their individual prison terms. Todd was incarcerated at the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Pensacola in Florida, while Julie served her sentence at a separate federal penitentiary in Lexington, Kentucky.

Approximately six months following the incarceration of both Julie and Todd, Savannah Chrisley publicly disclosed some insights about their well-being. She confirmed that, unfortunately, there was no communication between them while they were serving their sentences in separate prisons.

195 days passed since our last communication… she expressed in an August 2023 Instagram post. My spirit feels torn apart… I plead for fairness and justice!

She also pushed back at rumors about their time in prison.

She found it amusing on her podcast ‘Unlocked with Savannah Chrisley’, saying one person commented, ‘He’s let himself go,’ about someone else. However, she pointed out that since hair color isn’t available in prison stores, of course the individual’s hair is gray now. If she could speak to him today, she would tell him not to change his look as it suits him well and he has a good-looking prison barber.

Nonetheless, Todd expressed his concerns regarding the unfair treatment he experienced at the federal prison camp in Pensacola, Florida, while confined.

In the December 2023 edition of Cuomo, he mentioned during a phone call that the food was not fresh. Specifically, it had surpassed its expiration date by a year.

He went on to explain, “There are rats and squirrels infesting the storage facility where the food is kept. They disguised it with plastic sheets, only to tear out the ceiling due to extensive mold growth. As a result, they discovered a deceased cat trapped in the ceiling, which unfortunately fell onto the food.

Apart from the atrocities unfolding in the cafeteria, he claimed that an individual had additionally tried to blackmail his relatives.

He mentioned that a photo had been taken of him sleeping and sent to his daughter. He then requested $2,600 per month for his safety or protection.

In the absence of their parents due to legal issues, Savannah is shouldering the responsibility for her younger siblings Grayson and Chloe. She has shared that their convictions and the resulting distance between them have been a heavy burden on her.

She revealed to TopMob News in March 2024 that the last conversation they had was just before they were both sent to federal prison. She claimed there has been a significant amount of retribution directed towards her father due to our vocal criticisms regarding the prison conditions.

Indeed, she claimed that the prison authorities were preventing a significant amount of his email communication with her mother.

Even though she didn’t want to focus on herself, she acknowledged that the situation could be overpowering at moments.

Savannah shared during her podcast, Unlocked, in April 2024 that she finds it difficult to accept that life seems to carry on without her parents, much like how she sometimes feels about certain individuals in her own life who appear to live their lives as if nothing has changed.

She went on saying, “I’m finding it hard to breathe, still seated here, as I juggle finances for the children and try to balance being a parent and maintaining my relationship.

In June 2024, Julie’s seven-year prison term was reversed by a three-judge panel of the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. Although they upheld her convictions, the court determined that the presiding judge during the 2022 trial had incorrectly calculated the length of Julie’s sentence as a reality star.

In their decision, the judges explained that the lower court failed to specify the evidence it used to convict Julie for losses prior to 2007. Since we can’t locate this evidence in the court records ourselves, they decided to overturn Julie’s sentence and return the case back to the district court. The district court is now required to make the necessary factual findings, calculate the losses, restitution, and forfeiture for Julie, and then re-sentence her accordingly.

The judicial process for adjusting her sentence was assigned to a lower court, whereas Todd’s sentence remained unchanged.

After having her prison sentence overturned three months ago, the court in Atlanta eventually confirmed a seven-year sentence for Julie once more. In a heartfelt manner, she apologized, not only to the court but also to her children for this turn of events.

At the court hearing on September 25th, as reported by People, Julie expressed, “Over a considerable period of time, I’ve pondered over what I wished to convey, and I deeply regret my actions and circumstances that have brought us to this point.” She added, “Though I spent 20 months in prison, the remorse for my actions that led to this predicament has been building up much longer than that.

She’s made every possible effort to reconnect with her family. She’s even taken exams to learn new abilities like operating a forklift and serving food professionally. This phase of her life has been incredibly challenging. She can never fully repay her children for the hardships they’ve endured, and for that, she expresses deep regret.

The Chrisley family is returning home, as they were granted a presidential pardon by Donald Trump during a phone conversation with Savannah on May 27, 2025.

Savannah stated to TopMob News, “Over the last two and a half years, I’ve put all my efforts into struggling to secure my parents’ release and reunite our family. Today marks the realization of countless hopes, and I am profoundly thankful to President Trump for recognizing the truth and rectifying this situation, thereby returning my family to me.

They were both released on May 28, 2025.
