As a dedicated gamer, I’m super pumped about the upcoming Nintendo events! Following the Partner Showcase, Nintendo is gearing up for another event where they’ll unveil exciting new games for the Nintendo Switch and the rumored Nintendo Switch 2. The Indie World showcase returns on August 7th, promising around 15 awesome titles from both fresh and familiar indie developers.
However, it seems there might be some bad news regarding Hollow Knight: Silksong, but let’s keep our fingers crossed for some unexpected surprises!
As an avid gamer, I’m thrilled about the surge in indie game popularity! The year 2025 looks particularly exciting with a plethora of promising indie titles on the horizon. However, with limited time – just 15 minutes – it’s going to be quite a challenge to squeeze them all in. Nevertheless, here are seven indie games that fans like myself can’t wait to see during Nintendo’s Indie World showcase!
1) Hades 2
The eagerly awaited sequel, “Hades 2,” is nearly on par with the anticipation for “Hollow Knight: Silksong” among independent game enthusiasts. Developed by Supergiant Games, it appears that a complete release may be imminent, possibly during Nintendo’s July Indie World event, given a recent leak and the game’s exclusivity on Nintendo consoles. Although fans hoped to see “Hades 2” during the Partner Showcase, they were left disappointed. However, with Supergiant Games being an independent developer, there’s another opportunity for fans to catch a glimpse tomorrow.
2) Witchbrook
Enthusiastic gamers have been eagerly awaiting the announcement of “Witchbrook” ever since Chucklefish unveiled it. This pixelated spin-off of “Harry Potter” offers up to four players a chance to experience life as a witch in a simulation game, which seems like an instant money maker. Given Chucklefish’s reputation as an independent publisher and developer, many believe that “Witchbrook” may make its appearance during the July Indie World event. Fans are hoping for an announcement of the release date for this long-anticipated indie game, and it’s reasonable to expect the news soon, given how far along the development process has progressed.
3) Slay the Spire 2
The anticipated sequel to the renowned indie game, “Slay the Spire 2,” is eagerly awaited by fans. Confirmed by developer Mega Crit, this rogue-like deckbuilder is set for an early access launch in the year 2025. The Nintendo Indie World event could be ideal for announcing a final release date or unveiling fresh gameplay footage. Although one new character and returning characters have been confirmed, there’s still much more about the game that remains shrouded in mystery.
4) UFO 50
The eclectic and charming game compilation titled ‘UFO 50,’ created by the developers Mossmouth (responsible for hits like ‘Spelunky’ and ‘Spelunky 2’), boasts a highly favorable review on Steam. Enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating its release on Nintendo Switch and the rumored Nintendo Switch 2, believing that these systems would suit the game’s diverse genres perfectly. The game’s success on Steam Deck further supports this notion. Announcing a port for tomorrow could be a significant triumph for Nintendo.
5) Katana Zero DLC
In natural and easy-to-read language:
The game called Katana Zero, known as one of the top indie games, had fans excitedly waiting for its DLC. Unfortunately, it never materialized, but now there’s renewed hope after the DLC was confirmed at the Triple-I Interactive show six years later. The new DLC will continue the story from where Katana Zero ended, offering additional content, stories, and intense action that fans have come to love. Although no release date has been announced yet, Nintendo’s Indie World presentation might offer some insight into when we can expect the free DLC to be available.
6) Skate Story
The visually striking and eerily beautiful graphics of “Skate Story” quickly piqued gamers’ interest. Coupled with its distinctive tale of skating through the underworld, it didn’t take long for many to add it to their wishlists. As of now, the game is confirmed for PC and PlayStation platforms, but there’s optimism that it will also be released on Nintendo Switch and future versions like Nintendo Switch 2. Devolver Digital has been rather silent about the game, and there have been some delays. However, its appearance at the Indie World event promises to introduce it to new audiences, reassuring fans that the project is still progressing as planned.
7) Death Howl
The Death Howl demo was one of the standout hits at Steam Next Fest. It stands out by blending soulslike mechanics with deckbuilding and strategic combat in an innovative way. Its chilling narrative and stunning visuals make it hard to resist, encouraging players to delve into its roguelike gameplay loop. Developers The Outer Zone and publishers 11 bit studios are initially planning a PC launch, but many fans believe that Death Howl would be ideal on Nintendo’s handheld consoles. They are eagerly awaiting any mention of the game during the Indie World.
