Isekai genre, a significant component of the anime landscape, has grown exponentially, as numerous shows opt to transport their protagonists into fantastical realms unlike their own. Leveraging the “Isekai boom,” one show has ingeniously merged multiple franchises to produce a laugh-out-loud comedy that may catch viewers off guard. Debuting in 2019, this unique series is called “Isekai Quartet” and is about to kick off its third season, featuring returning characters. As the new season approaches, the Isekai lineup is expanding with an unanticipated franchise addition that Isekai aficionados have recently become acquainted with.
To date, the first two seasons of “Isekai Quartet” have featured characters from popular series such as “Overlord”, “Konosuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World”, “Re:Zero: Starting Life in Another World”, “The Rising of The Shield Hero”, “Cautious Hero: The Hero is Overpowered but Overly Cautious” and “The Saga of Tanya The Evil”. In the upcoming third season, the highly acclaimed series “Eminence in Shadow” will be joining the lineup, likely adding some unexpected twists to the anime. As of now, a specific release date for the new season has not been announced, but fans can get a sneak peek with the recently released trailer, which you can view below.
The Quartet Expands
Fortunately, if you haven’t watched it yet, you can stream both seasons of the unique blend titled “Isekai Quartet” on Crunchyroll. This intriguing series is explained by the streaming service as follows: “Suddenly appearing was a button. With no warning signs suggesting not to push it, the logical move seemed clear – but was it a trap or the beginning of something new and thrilling? The teams from ‘Re:Zero’, ‘Overlord’, ‘Konosuba’, and ‘The Saga of Tanya the Evil’ will discover the answer when they step through a portal from their world to another, only to find themselves enrolled… in school?! Witness the adorable havoc they’ll create in this collection of short episodes!
In addition to centering around characters previously introduced in Isekai series, the animated show “Isekai Quartet” goes a step further by bringing back the original voice actors from each anime to reprise their roles. For instance, Satoshi Hino voices Ains from “Overlord”, Jun Fukushima voices Kazuma from “Konosuba”, Yusuke Kobayashi voices Subaru from “Re:Zero”, and so on. For the new addition of “Eminence in Shadow”, Seiichiro Yamashita will once again assume the role of Cid Kagenou, also known as Shadow.
Previously mentioned, the isekai genre has gained significant influence in the anime industry, consistently churning out popular anime series. At present, there are numerous franchises yet to join the Quartet, with notable exceptions such as Sword Art Online, Inuyasha, and That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime. Here’s hoping that more beloved isekai shows will make their way into this comedy series in the future.
