Exciting Insights on the Upcoming Action RPG, Lost Soul Aside!

Lost Soul Aside, a game inspired by Final Fantasy XV and boasting high anticipation, is almost upon us. The journey of its development was arduous, starting as a one-man project before evolving into the 40-strong team it is now, backed by Sony. Although

As we delve deeper with freshly unveiled footage and information, here are some crucial points about the upcoming indie gem, Lost Soul Aside, that you should know before making your purchase.

Story

In Lost Soul Aside, it’s clear that its storyline is heavily influenced by Final Fantasy, as you’ll find an oppressive empire to bring down, a sibling in need of saving, and a mystical dragon imbuing the protagonist with extraordinary abilities.

Characters

As I, Kaser, venture forth on my latest quest, I find myself unexpectedly teaming up with allies from both the Empire and resistance forces. This time, we’re up against a formidable extra-dimensional foe – the ominous Voidrax. But things take an intriguing turn when a dragon-like Voidrax named Arena extends an unusual alliance, offering its powers to me. It seems this threat might not be as straightforward as it appears!

As a fervent fan, I’m excited to share my insights about the characters in this game. Kaser’s sister seems less likely to stay away for the entire game, given her early involvement in the story. You see, she was part of Kaser’s rebellion against the empire even before the Voidrax invasion. So, there’s a strong possibility that she might rejoin the group at some point.

As for Kaser himself, he embodies the suave and stoic character type. It wouldn’t be unexpected to see other party members adopt roles such as the comedic relief or the antihero, adding depth and variety to the group dynamic.

Inspired by Final Fantasy XV for Its World

Initially, when Lost Soul Aside was just a one-man development project, Yang Bing openly acknowledged that Final Fantasy XV left a significant impact on the game. He emphasized the blending of fantasy with ‘realism’ as a fundamental concept. This is reflected in various aspects such as Kaser’s modern attire and the more lifelike settings within the game environment.

In this rephrased version, crystals serve as a significant recurring theme in Final Fantasy, playing prominent roles in both advertising and overall game design. For instance, the dragon companion is crafted from crystal, emphasizing the genetic code or essential characteristics of Final Fantasy.

Linear Experience

A common misunderstanding about Lost Soul Aside is that it follows an open-world layout. However, this isn’t accurate. Although it features a linear storyline with expansive areas to explore and multiple paths, it doesn’t encompass a vast sandbox environment like some may think. The game does promise exciting exploration with abilities earned in the Arena, such as dash jumps, gliding, dragon flight, and even a crystal hoverboard. The hope is that the platforming remains witty and smooth without becoming overly complex or difficult to manage.

Weapon Types

Players will have multiple travel options beyond standard human jumps, thanks to Arena, Kaser’s winged companion who doubles as a traversal aid. Moreover, Arena also serves as a versatile weapon carrier with access to four distinct tools. Ever thought a crystal dragon functioning as a hoverboard and wall-riding platform was impressive? Wait till you see the array of weapons Arena can transform into!

As a seasoned gamer, I’ve found myself wielding an extraordinary arsenal in this game. I’m talking about the Arena that magically morphs into four unique weapons: the agile Poleblade, the swift Scythe, the powerful Greatsword, and the stealthy One-Handed Sword.

The Sword, my personal favorite, is like being a ninja, perfect for close combat with its quick slicing and dicing moves. On the other hand, the Greatsword is a beast, delivering heavy blows that send enemies crashing to the ground in slow but determined attacks.

If you’re looking for some ranged action, give the Poleblade a try. It shoots bullets or delivers ranged slash strikes, making it a formidable choice from afar. For those who like versatility, the Scythe is a tough nut to crack, offering a blend of various weapon types and requiring a bit of practice to master.

What’s more, switching between these four weapons mid-combat? Piece of cake! It’s as smooth as butter, adding a new layer of strategy to each battle with exciting combos at your disposal.

Weapon Skills

In Lost Soul Aside, each weapon comes equipped with up to four distinct abilities that can be triggered using face buttons. These skills include the Poleblade’s energy bursts and the Sword’s rapid aerial attacks, showcasing an impressive range of options and eye-catching effects.

Skill Tree

Character skills enhance the capabilities of weapons in a Skill Development Pathway. Although the exact design isn’t yet unveiled, it encompasses familiar elements from role-playing games like permanent enhancements (passive buffs), stat improvements, and privileges that are unlocked by accumulating experience points during battles.

Weapon Customization

Advancement in the game is fueled by discovering pieces of collectible weapons scattered throughout it. These pieces enable you to modify a weapon’s look and enhance particular abilities. It’s yet to be determined if these pieces can be swapped between various weapon categories.

Parries and Dodging

In the spirit of fast-paced action titles like Metal Gear Rising Revengeance, evading swiftly is crucial in Lost Soul Aside. Unlike games such as Sekiro or Lies of P, however, Lost Soul Aside doesn’t necessitate the same level of intricate precision. Instead, it adopts a hack-n-slash style that’s simple to learn but difficult to master. While parrying is part of the gameplay, it’s not as crucial as in games similar to FromSoftware’s.

Combo Burst Mechanics

As a gamer, diving into the heart of battles feels exhilarating thanks to the intricate chain of attacks, known as Combo Chains, and an exciting mechanic called Combo Burst. During these combos, there are precise ‘burst’ instances that amplify your attack strength when timed accurately. To unleash a burst, you need to nail the timing of your button press at the right moment in the combo. Mastering the rhythm of each unique weapon and combo sequence is an engaging challenge I’m eager to conquer!

The Fusion Gauge blends fighting with a scale that lets your dragon companion, Arena, attack enemies using different techniques. As you enhance this Fusion skill, it grows in capabilities, complementing your other weapons and abilities, offering a diverse set of options for gameplay.

PC Requirements

To fully immerse yourself in Lost Soul Aside, you’ll need to reserve approximately 80 GB of storage for installation. The game recommends a Core i5-10400 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 CPU, Nvidia GTX 1060 or AMD RX 5500 XT GPU, and 16 GB RAM to run smoothly. If you want the best visuals and performance, consider a Core i7-11700 or Ryzen 7 5700X CPU, RTX 3070 or RX 6800 XT GPU, and still 16 GB of RAM. Don’t forget that ray tracing is an option to enhance the game’s dynamic crystal-filled visuals, but it requires the Ultra settings, which in turn requires a Core i7-13700K or Ryzen 7 7800X CPU, RTX 5070 Ti GPU, and yet again, 16 GB of RAM.

PC-Specific Features

Besides enjoying ray tracing, PC gamers are also anticipating 4K graphics capable of variable refresh rates. The publisher has hinted at performance-enhancing technologies for the PC edition, which could possibly include DLSS and AI-powered frame generation. Additionally, if you’re curious about the advanced haptic feedback that PS5 users enjoy, rest assured that the DualSense controller is fully functional with the PC version.

No PSN Account Required on PC

It’s great news for PC gamers as they can now enjoy playing Lost Soul Aside without needing a PlayStation Network (PSN) account, since the game’s Steam page has confirmed that it no longer requires one to play on a computer. This means PC players get to experience this game while still using their preferred platform.

PS5 Pro Support Confirmed

Although specifics aren’t fully disclosed yet, it’s been announced that the PS5 version of Lost Soul Aside will receive enhancements. This enhancement is similar to those for other Pro-compatible games, meaning you can anticipate better graphics and smoother gameplay, but no extra content beyond technical upgrades.

Pricing and Platforms

On August 29th, the game “Lost Soul Aside” will be available for both PS5 and PC platforms. The standard version is priced at $59.99, whereas the Digital Deluxe edition goes for $69.99. By purchasing the Digital Deluxe edition, you’ll receive three weapon fragment skins, an Arena skin, a health boost, XP boost, and a digital soundtrack as additional features with your game code.
