The Peacock streaming service boasts a wealth of popular TV series and movies, and it’s now hosting one of Tom Cruise’s top films. This versatile actor has garnered much acclaim for performances in films like “Mission Impossible,” “Top Gun: Maverick,” “Risky Business,” and “The Mummy.” In 2014, he further enhanced his impressive resume with a memorable role in a sci-fi film that, over a decade later, still stands as his finest science fiction work to date.
On August 1st, I joined forces with Peacock and delved into the captivating world of “Edge of Tomorrow,” a movie where I, played by Tom Cruise, find myself in a time loop after being compelled to participate in an operation against an overwhelming alien occupation in Europe. Directed by Doug Liman and penned by Christopher McQuarrie, this film also features the remarkable talents of Emily Blunt, Bill Paxton, and Brendan Gleeson. Streaming now on the NBCUniversal platform, “Edge of Tomorrow” is a testament to Cruise’s undeniable prowess in science fiction cinema, complemented by another highly-regarded film, “Oblivion,” directed by Joseph Kosinski in 2013 and inspired by his unpublished graphic novel of the same name.
Boasting a video game-esque plot, abundant action sequences, jaw-dropping stunts, and a spellbinding narrative, “Edge of Tomorrow” was warmly embraced by viewers upon its cinema release in June 2014. The film generated an impressive global revenue of over $370.5 million while having a production budget of $178 million, and both critics and audiences praised it. On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie boasts a fresh rating from both metrics, with a 91% score from critics, making it the actor’s seventh-highest-rated film. Additionally, it earned an equally impressive 90% audience score.
Following the movie’s triumph, there’s been a lot of discussion about a possible sequel over the years. However, no definite plans have materialized for Edge of Tomorrow 2 yet. So, fans who are eager for more sci-fi action will have to revisit the original film instead. You can stream Edge of Tomorrow on Peacock.
