HBO Max Now Streaming One of the Biggest Horror Movies of All Time

I’m thrilled to share that HBO Max has made a comeback with one of the most chilling horror movies ever produced, which was previously exclusive to Amazon Prime Video. This means horror enthusiasts like myself now have two platforms to experience the terror. The duration these films will stay on each platform isn’t definitive yet, but there’s a possibility that HBO Max could soon become the sole streaming platform for this movie, depending on when Amazon Prime Video expires its rights.

As a dedicated movie enthusiast, I’ve got to say that the latest HBO Max horror flick I’m raving about is no slouch. It’s managed to earn the 11th highest box office gross in the history of horror films, surpassing only some real heavyweights: 2017’s It, 1999’s The Sixth Sense, 2007’s I Am Legend, 2013’s World War Z, 1975’s Jaws, 2019’s It: Chapter Two, the upcoming 2024’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, 1973’s The Exorcist, 2002’s Signs, and 2012’s Prometheus. But does that automatically make it the 11th best horror movie of all time? No, because we’re talking about different categories here. However, there’s no denying its massive popularity and success. This blockbuster is none other than 2018’s The Nun, directed by Corin Hardy, who also brought us the release of The Conjuring 2. When The Nun graced our screens, it raked in a whopping $366 million, which is quite impressive considering its production budget was only $22 million.

Many people might not be aware that the 2018 horror film is actually connected to the Conjuring series. In fact, it holds the title as the highest-grossing movie within this franchise. Although The Nun had impressive box office numbers, it received mostly negative reviews from both critics and audiences. It’s worth noting that this isn’t unusual for popular horror films. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film only garnered a 24% approval rating among critics and a somewhat better, but still low, 34% audience score. Warner Bros. Pictures likely doesn’t mind much given the movie’s financial success.

2023 saw the release of a follow-up titled The Nun II, which garnered somewhat better reception, scoring 51/72 on Rotten Tomatoes. Despite this, it didn’t perform exceptionally well at the cinema, earning $269.5 million against a production budget of $38.5 million. Notably, the sequel is currently streaming exclusively on HBO Max and Amazon Prime Video.

Individuals choosing to stream “The Nun” now available on HBO Max can anticipate a running time of approximately 96 minutes. Additionally, be prepared for an “R” rating due to its graphic violence, unsettling visuals, and intense horror elements.
