On August 12th, Hellblade 2 transitions from Xbox Series X|S to PlayStation 5. As suggested by a brief trailer led by Ninja Theory, the process of porting this game for the British developer seemed to be straightforward and smooth.
Last year’s standard Xbox Series X|S version was developed using Unreal Engine 5. According to Gavin Costello, Epic Games has already prepared a highly compatible platform for PS5 within this engine. With the PS5 setup ready, the tools team then focused on receiving daily updates of the game and integrating its content team.

According to Costello, we have a system called Self Play that can play the entire game from start to finish, and it even allows us to attach profiling tools during gameplay. This feature allowed us to confirm that the game could be played from beginning to end early on, and we gained valuable insights into our current performance level. Starting in this advantageous position on the platform was a significant benefit for us.
Ninja Theory faced a significant hurdle in optimizing Hellblade 2 for the PS5 Pro, as the initial version of Unreal Engine 5 used for the game hadn’t been adapted yet for the enhanced console. They had to reintroduce some features into the current edition, enabling the game to take advantage of PSSR (PlayStation’s Tempest 3D AudioTech).
In essence, Gavin Costello stated in the video that the transition of Hellblade 2 to PlayStation 5 was remarkably effortless, enabling them to devote additional focus on crafting fresh content and improving performance.
Title Announcement: Senau’s Saga: Hellblade 2 Debuts on PS5 August 12th, Boasting an Impressive 60fps Performance Mode
Highlighting some of the key features, this game delivers a captivating cinematic experience, albeit one that might not offer as much gameplay variety. In our 6/10 review, we found that Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 truly shines in its visually and aurally immersive aspects, but the gameplay itself may not be as engaging compared to these exceptional sensory elements.
