In the initial appearance of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it may seem limited, with Tony Stark’s battles primarily involving a man in an armor suit and some hired troublemakers. Yet, as the story unfolds across various projects, it becomes evident that this universe encompasses numerous realms and planets. Thor’s father, Odin, governs them all, but things can get complicated due to the presence of powerful extraterrestrial beings. Some, like the Skrulls with their shape-shifting abilities, or Thanos, who possesses power equivalent to an entire army, pose significant threats. However, not every non-human character in the MCU is hostile; some coexist peacefully.
Over the span of this franchise, numerous heroes have formed alliances with companions who don’t behave or speak like typical Earth residents. Despite this, they manage to contribute significantly, and it’s safe to say that the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has greatly benefited from these unique characters on our list.
5) Morris
Xu Wenwu is eager to uncover as much knowledge as possible about the enigmatic land of Ta Lo from the movie ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’. In one of the villain’s journeys, he encounters a peculiar creature called a Dijiang, featuring fur, no eyes, and wings attached to its head. Upon returning to Earth, Wenwu captures this being and keeps it imprisoned.
When Shang-Chi and Katy Chen find themselves imprisoned, they encounter Trevor Slattery and his companion, Morris the Dijiang. Slattery acts as a translator for Morris, who reveals to Shang-Chi the way to Ta Lo. Without Morris’s guidance, it is likely that Wenwu would have been able to take control of Ta Lo, potentially placing the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe in jeopardy.
4) Cosmo
In Guardians of the Galaxy, it is revealed that the Collector amasses an eclectic assortment of items at Knowhere. Among them is Howard the Duck, a famous Marvel Comics character, yet he pales in comparison to some of his fellow inhabitants in terms of usefulness.
In simpler terms, Cosmo – though a Earth-born dog – possesses extraordinary skills, including mind control over objects. During the final confrontation in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, when Knowhere is under attack by the High Evolutionary’s forces, she bravely shields Kraglin and even eliminates a few adversaries. Her courageous acts lead to her joining Rocket’s revamped team of Guardians.
3) Baby Groot
Initially, Rocket’s sidekick holds a dear spot in his heart since they share a resemblance with an old acquaintance. Despite Groot embodying the heroic qualities that Rocket possesses, Baby Groot lacks the same moral compass. More often than not, he causes more trouble than good, but due to his endearing nature, it’s challenging to maintain anger towards him.
In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, it’s Baby Groot who steps up during the fight against Ego. Because of his compact size, he manages to plant an explosive device deep within Ego’s core. Though it takes him some time to grasp Rocket’s commands, he ultimately completes the task and spares the Guardians from being destroyed by a Celestial.
2) Goose
In Captain Marvel, Carol Danvers, following her memory loss and transformation into a Kree warrior, isn’t particularly known for her warmth. Yet, one exceptional being she develops a connection with is Goose, the Flerken pet that was once owned by Mar-Vell. This cat-like creature plays a crucial role in defeating the Kree and continues to demonstrate its importance beyond this battle.
In “The Marvels”, Goose persists in devouring villains entirely. Her most significant action occurs near the film’s conclusion, as her eggs hatch. The hatched Flerkens play a crucial role in helping Fury rescue numerous S.W.O.R.D. agents. They accomplish this by swallowing the agents and transporting them to safety.
1) H.E.R.B.I.E
The most recent robotic companion added to the Marvel Cinematic Universe is H.E.R.B.I.E., who serves with the Fantastic Four. During ordinary situations, this robot takes care of chores around the Baxter Building, like cooking and child-proofing the place. However, when things get challenging, he steps up to help out.
In the story, the heroic team engages Galactus and the Silver Surfer in battle, and H.E.R.B.I.E., their trusted ally, stands by their side. He safeguards Franklin Richards and assists with piloting the Excelsior. Unlike J.A.R.V.I.S., the Fantastic Four’s artificial companion, H.E.R.B.I.E. gets to roll up his sleeves and join in the action, which earns him a top spot on the list.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps is in theaters.
