Game development studio, GSC Game World, unveiled the modifying resources, named ZoneKit, specifically tailored for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl. The scale of these tools left everyone astounded.
- If you want to use ZoneKit, you need to space out about 700 GB on your hard drive.
- It’s a mind-boggling number, but it’s actually really good news. This size is due to the fact that GSC Game World studio has provided modders with uncompressed visual elements. So this will greatly facilitate the creation of mods.
- The devs are aware that the size of the file is huge, so they are considering optimizing this aspect in future versions of the tools, although they aren’t yet sure if this will be possible. No details were given, but fans are suggesting a system that would install compressed elements and only download the larger, uncompressed version after selecting the one to be modified.
Modkit over 30 times bigger than Starfield’s
Without a doubt, these modding tools are among the largest ever released to date. To give you an idea, the Creation Kit for Starfield occupies approximately 20 GB, FrostKit for Frostpunk 2 requires around 100 GB, and the mod pack for Baldur’s Gate 3 consumes about 150 GB of space.
Yesterday’s launch unveiled only the initial phase of ZoneKit, meaning that the available customization options for the game are currently rather minimal. However, the developers are actively working on future releases, aiming to broaden the possibilities for modding and enrich the experience with
Developers also provided a cautionary notice, stating that older mods, developed prior to the launch of ZoneKit, could potentially conflict with update version 1.5. These mods might include those that modify configuration files or manually installed ones within the folder “…S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Heart of Chornobyl\Stalker2\Content\Paks\~mods”.
Players are already using ZoneKit for STALKER 2
Neither the limitations nor the size of ZoneKit stopped fans from creating their own mods.
Approximately 50 projects are currently accessible on Steam Workshop, with the Dynamic Weather Overhaul being the most popular among them. It’s no surprise that modders have created additions like CJ from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and the Thomas and Friends title train, as it’s common for games equipped with modding tools to see these types of contributions.
On November 20, 2024, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl was launched. Since then, players with Game Pass subscriptions can enjoy the game on PC and Xbox Series S & X consoles as well.
