In the upcoming scene for Overwatch 2, Blizzard Entertainment unveiled a glimpse of what’s to come in their popular free-to-play multiplayer game. The new hero, known as Wuyang (formerly codenamed Aqua), is a support character with water-themed abilities from China. His unique set of powers enables him not only to heal his comrades during combat but also to inflict damage on enemies to dampen their spirits (and health).
You can watch the gameplay trailer below, which provides a thrilling display of Wuyang’s watery skills in action:
Overwatch 2: Wuyang’s Skills
[Abilities description]
- Guardian Wave: Send a water wave forward that increases the amount of healing received by allies and knocks back enemies.
- Rushing Torrent: Ride water to move faster and jump higher.
- Tidal Blast (Ultimate): Protect yourself or an ally with water that detonates after a short duration. The explosion knocks enemies down and massively heals the host target.
- Overflow (Minor Perk): Gain 10 Ammo and 33% healing resource when Rushing Torrent is activated.
- Balance (Minor Perk): When you deal damage with water orbs, increase healing stream’s passive healing by 40% for 2 seconds.
- Ebb and Flow (Major Perk): Guardian Wave rewinds to its starting location. Deals 50% decreased damage while rewinding.
- Falling Rain (Major Perk): Simultaneously control 3 water orbs that deal 60% decreased damage and have 25% decreased empowered explosion radius.
In 2025, Wuyang becomes the second fresh character introduced in Overwatch 2, entering the game a few months following the arrival of the Norse huntress, Freya.
A good time to dive back in
Admittedly, I’ve been playing Overwatch 2 less frequently than before, largely due to the abundance of multiplayer games that my friends and I have been rotating through, with Marvel Rivals currently being our favorite. However, Wuyang has caught my attention; his kit seems intriguing, particularly as a support character who can heal while still maintaining an offensive presence. I’m eager to give him a try when he fully debuts.
If you can’t wait, there’s a limited trial for Wuyang from August 14 through 18. So, don’t miss out! Wuyang will officially join the game in full with Season 18 on Aug. 26, 2025.
Kudos to Blizzard for sticking to their initial roadmap this year. They haven’t just been delivering new heroes like Wuyang, but also enhancing the game with various updates, including the thrilling third-person Stadium mode.
This announcement comes hot on the heels of the Overwatch 2 development team at Blizzard Entertainment unionizing, aiming to address pay disparity, promote work-from-home opportunities for many roles, and more. The Story and Franchise Development team at Blizzard have also recently formed a union.
Overwatch 2 is currently accessible on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Windows PC (Steam and Xbox PC), PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch. Subscribers of Xbox Game Pass enjoy special perks, such as a 10% XP boost and a collection of skins.
