In a joint announcement by publishers Owlcat Games and developers Emotion Spark Studio, it’s confirmed that the immersive Narrative RPG “Rue Valley” will debut on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch, in addition to its already-planned PC release on Steam.
Additionally, they revealed plans for a worldwide partnership with the men’s health charity, Movember. This collaboration is designed to demonstrate innovative and impactful approaches to using video games as a platform to delve into aspects of mental health.
In a press statement, Marko Smiljanic, the creative head at Emotion Spark Studio, expressed great satisfaction about collaborating with the Movember team. This alliance allows us to express the significance of mental health sincerely, by leveraging their knowledge to make our narratives ring true and authentic.
Key themes of the collaboration include:
- Meeting Players Where They Are – Using gaming as a familiar non‑clinical space, Rue Valley provides a natural approach to promote mental wellbeing.
- Gaming as Connection and Healing – Through the dynamic narrative and compelling characters, players are encouraged to reflect and engage in meaningful conversations.
- Normalizing Therapy – Rue Valley’s thoughtful approach to storytelling helps players explore what therapy can feel like in a safe, immersive way.
Here is an overview of the game, via Owlcat Games:
About
Escape the puzzling cycle of recurring events! Begin an adventure filled with personal growth and determination. Explore the intriguing secrets hidden within the seemingly insignificant town of Rue Valley.
Every day, it seems I’m climbing a mental mountain filled with my own internal demons. On this journey, I meet an intriguing cast of characters, each grappling with their emotional intricacies. As we grow closer, they reveal layers upon layers of depth, making them more captivating with each interaction.
Could you find the bravery needed to solve the mystery behind this time paradox? Is it possible for you to tap into your inner resilience, overcome obstacles, and create a more promising future?
In the virtual world of Rue Valley, shape your unique identity. Perhaps you’re an introspective individual who weighs every action thoroughly, or maybe you’re a flamboyant character who relies on your intuition above all else.
Regardless of whether you portray your genuine self or adopt a completely new persona, your character’s nature will influence the conversations and actions you take within the game.
Transform your narrative by structuring memories in a graph format, unveiling motivations and mental states as you embark on a distinctive journey through the storyline. Embrace eccentric mindsets for humorous exchanges that surprise, and immerse yourself in character-changing Status Effects: exhibit increased sociability under the influence of alcohol or heightened sensitivity when nervous.
Let’s try out various responses and deadlines, since we’ll simply return to the starting point again eventually, correct?
