Harry Hamlin Reveals Big Milestone of New Sobriety Journey

Harry Hamlin is owning his sobriety.

The L.A. Law alum shared he recently celebrated a big milestone after giving up drinking.

In today’s episode of their podcast, “Let’s Not Talk About the Husband,” the 73-year-old shared that it’s been a year since he made a personal decision to abstain from alcohol consumption. He mentioned it wasn’t a major event but chose to stop drinking alcohol again.

Initially, Harry often found himself considering a nightly drink or using alcohol to help him fall asleep. However, the actor subsequently explained that he never struggled with this and was instead quite content.

Many find quitting alcohol to be quite significant, and this sentiment was echoed by the former star of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Regarding myself, I am content with my decision to abstain.

Harry has shared that he’s given up alcohol numerous times throughout his life. He further detailed an instance where he joined Alcoholics Anonymous for a period of four years, during which he abstained from drinking.

He emphasized that everyone should participate in the program, referring to it as being part of the organization. Moreover, he expressed that one of the most valuable experiences he’s had was dedicating those four years to the program, considering it a significant gift he received.

Nevertheless, the former Mad Men star, who has daughters Delilah Belle (aged 27) and Amelia Gray (aged 24) with Rinna and also a son Dimitri (aged 45) from a previous relationship, was still relying on prescription sleep aids during that period. However, he has since stopped using them.

He stated that Ambien is similar to a highly dangerous substance for him. Without resorting to self-medication, he finds a fresh perspective on life.

Moreover, abstaining from alcohol recently has not only impacted him mentally but also physically. Harry noted that he’s shed a significant amount of weight since giving up alcohol and adopting intermittent fasting as part of his lifestyle change.

Apart from Harry, there’s another member in their household who is abstaining from alcohol. Delilah has recently opened up about her battles with anxiety, depression, and an issue involving excessive medication.

On their July 4th podcast, the model expressed that she enjoys being sober and finds a sense of pride in saying so, although she does not put much emphasis on it. She also shared her fondness for rehab.

After the Backstreet Boys member relapsed in 2021, he noted he “got sober again for the last time.”

He shared with People magazine in July 2025 that he was committed to seeing this through until the end. It’s something he works on every day, but by following advice from the sober community, his life has experienced a remarkable turn for the better.

While AJ acknowledged he is “still learning, still growing,” he’s now confident in who he is.

He mentioned that he recently learned new expressions like boundaries, and prior to this, he hadn’t truly understood them. Now, however, he recognizes their importance and considers it fortunate. AJ belongs to a certain group, but he doesn’t shape or define the unique individual that I am; Alexander James is who I am.

In October 2018, the actor from American Pie shared a joyful and motivational Instagram post to celebrate reaching one year of sobriety.

He initially attempted to achieve sobriety more than five years back, as the burden of his excessive drinking and drug use had grown unmanageable for him. Reflecting on it then, he penned, “It turns out that this journey is challenging.

He went on to say, ‘Following a few ups and downs, I’ve successfully achieved a year without alcohol. This accomplishment fills me with pride like no other. For those of you who are finding it tough, remember there is always support available. Don’t let embarrassment hold you back. Together, we can overcome this.’

In time, he looked back on his odyssey with addiction and the great efforts he made to conceal his battle against it.

In a March 2024 episode of his wife Jenny Mollen’s “All the Fails” podcast, he shared that he was attending therapy and making efforts to address personal issues. However, following a productive therapy session, he decided to leave therapy, went to the liquor store, bought a bottle of vodka, drank it, and then drove home as a way to detach himself from his current state and avoid feeling emotions intensely.

He remarked, ‘I had everything calculated perfectly. I made sure not to drink so much that I couldn’t talk with you. I was frequently replenishing the empty bottles at the bar.’

The twice crowned FIFA Women’s World Cup winner has been candid regarding her past abuse of Adderall, a medication she used to cope with injuries during her university soccer days.

In a 2025 episode of the “Question Everything with Danielle Robay” podcast, she admitted to becoming excessively dependent on Adderall and abusing it. She would frequently take it, sometimes skipping sleep for extended periods. It got out of hand – it was as if I was careening towards a heart attack. I’d crush it, then snort it. The situation was truly problematic.

However, in the midst of her struggle, her college coach Anson Dorrance was there to support her.

She clarified that the situation became extremely dark, necessitating significant changes, to which Anson suggested reading books. She found a book titled “Man’s Search for Meaning” which delves into the topic of enduring hardship and finding new perspectives. This book significantly impacted her life.

The Valley star shared his decades-long battle with drugs in March 2025 after going to rehab.

During a March 4 episode of Bravo’s Hot Mic podcast, Jax confessed that he struggles with addiction, particularly to cocaine. He admitted it’s difficult for him to openly acknowledge this struggle.

He went on to explain that he’s had periods of struggling with this issue, starting from when he was 23 years old and is now 45. There have been instances where he managed to break free from it, only to find himself immersed in it again at other times.

Jax decided to stop consuming alcohol and stated, “I don’t believe I have a severe alcohol issue, but they often go together. For me, using cocaine requires drinking as well. Consequently, I quit both substances. I am pleased to share that I’ve been sober for about 82 to 83 days now, which is the longest stretch in my life without either substance.

In 2022, the star of “Spider-Man: No Way Home” chose to quit alcohol consumption due to feeling trapped by its influence. Reflecting on this change, Holland shared his experience on the “On Purpose with Jay Shetty” podcast, admitting openly, “I was indeed enslaved to alcohol.” He continued, “Anyone who drinks a beer every day may have a hidden issue.

Afterward, you might find yourself thinking, “Gosh, I wish I hadn’t had that extra beer,” as the actor went on to say. Consequently, you may awaken the following morning with a pounding headache.

After adopting the new lifestyle, Holland found that he was experiencing improved sleep quality and increased ability to manage issues more effectively.

He revealed, “Normally, things that might cause stress or frustration on set, I was able to handle more easily.” He added, “My mental state was significantly improved. I felt more vigorous and in good physical condition.

The main character from “Hunt for Red October” seldom discusses his long-standing struggle with sobriety, a battle he’s been fighting for nearly four decades.

He mentioned that the topic doesn’t come up frequently but when appropriate, he does bring it up. It just so happens that he has been sober for 39 years, which was on February 23, 1985.

Discussing his life shift following his relocation from New York City to Los Angeles in 1983, Alec described a daily struggle that felt like an intense issue for two years. He admitted to using such a large amount of cocaine during this period that it seemed as if he had taken lines from here to Saturn. Upon returning home, cocaine use was as prevalent as coffee – everyone seemed to be doing it non-stop throughout the day.

And after quitting the drug, he soon turned to alcohol—only to also quit that dependency.

Today, he relies on the city around him.

He expressed that New York brings him a sense of tranquility. As he strolls around, he notices details about the city that he’d never observed before. For instance, he might gaze at a building and think, “I never realized that about this building, those doors.” He also has meals and coffee with his friends there.

In an interview with the New York Times in April 2024, the actress from The Princess Diaries announced that she has been sober for over five years. She expressed that this achievement felt significant to her, stating, “This feels like a milestone for me.

Her thoughts were straightforward; she confided, “I instinctively knew it wasn’t suitable for me.” She continued, “It seemed overly restrictive to have to insist, ‘Absolutely not even a little!’ But none. If you’re sensitive or react severely to something, you don’t debate it. So I decided to stop debating it.

She’s pleased with her decision, as she finds things are much better since then. For her, it served as a stepping stone rather than a place to dwell on problems.

During her acceptance speech for the 2018 Woman of the Year Award at the Peggy Albrecht Friendly House, a home providing recovery support for women battling substance and alcohol addiction, Moore discussed the self-harming trajectory that almost jeopardized her professional journey.

As a lifestyle expert reflecting on my personal journey, I can’t help but acknowledge the transformative moments that have sculpted my identity and steered my course. Early in my career, I found myself caught in a cycle of self-destruction, despite accomplishments that should have filled me with pride. Regardless of the successes I achieved, I always felt inadequate, plagued by an inner voice that questioned my worth.

This destructive pattern swiftly led me to a critical crossroads, a time when the reasons for my predicament were unclear. In retrospect, it seems as though some higher power intervened, guiding me through the darkest hours.

In 2012, Moore expressed gratitude towards two people she hardly knew for giving her a sort of tough love ultimatum, encouraging her to change her ways. She playfully said, “Unless I was already deceased, I had to show up,” emphasizing that she was given the opportunity to alter the trajectory of her life before it crumbled completely.

Moore remarked, “They perceived more of my qualities than I was aware of myself, and I’m deeply thankful for this insight. If not for them seeing the potential in me and trusting in me, I wouldn’t be where I am now.

In 2022, Cyrus disclosed that she’s been recuperating from her Xanax dependency since the year 2020. Speaking with Rolling Stone, she explained, “It provided a sense of structure when I truly needed it, as I didn’t wish to simply be idle and consumed by my thoughts.” She added, “It brought me hope.

The singer remarked, ‘When I believed I could momentarily mute the world and lessen your sorrow, that’s when it ended.’

She mentioned that her friends at the time tacitly supported her drug use, which led to a deep, endless abyss of darkness. However, during the pandemic, Cyrus started recognizing difficulties and felt she wasn’t emotionally engaged. “I was consistently slipping into deep sleep,” she reminisced, “unable to stay awake or keep my eyes open because I had sunk so low.

She eventually sought help and noted that “it took some time to get on my own two feet.”

In his 2025 documentary titled “Stans,” the rapper who is famous for “Lose Yourself” shared insights about his past struggle with prescription pills. He recounted an overdose incident and missing his daughter, Hailie Jade’s birthday party, which served as a catalyst for him to make significant changes in his life.

In the documentary, he expressed his feelings by saying, “I was so upset because I realized I had missed it, and I exclaimed, ‘Oh my goodness, I can’t believe I missed that!'” He continued to urge himself, “Do you really want to miss this again? Do you want to miss out on everything? If you can’t do it for yourself, then at least do it for them.” This translates to a more polite and easier-to-read version of the original quote.

Over time, focusing again on his music proved instrumental for the Oscar-winning artist in maintaining his recovery process.

He clarified that ‘something’ led to the activation of the light. Regarding sobriety, he shared that he no longer felt shy or self-conscious about it. Instead, he began viewing sobriety as a powerful ability and took great satisfaction in his achievement of quitting.

16 years had passed since the former star of Parenthood had been abstaining from alcohol, but in 2020, following a motorbike mishap, they resumed drug use with Vicodin.

For the past two months or so, he mentioned during his “Armchair Expert” podcast, “I’ve been using them quite a bit throughout the day, not entirely sure… Since I have a prescription for them, I’m allowed to take them in some amount, and I also increase their effect.

He went on to express his dislike for the situation, admitting he was deceiving others. He recognized the need to stop, but his tolerance was escalating so rapidly that he found himself consuming eight 30mg doses daily, aware of the significant withdrawal symptoms this amount would bring. This realization made him increasingly anxious and lonely, carrying an immense secret with him.

Back in 2018, the actress who starred in Halloween openly discussed her decade-long battle with opiate addiction that started in the late ’80s following a cosmetic surgery for her inherited puffy eyes. This led to a prescription that drastically altered her life. She confessed to People magazine, “For ten years, I was stealing and deceiving; nobody knew, not a soul.

In the summer of 1998, when Curtis’s sister visited and brought painkillers for a rib injury, Curtis admitted she had reached her lowest point. As she recalled to the publication, tears welling up, “I knew she had them in our guest room closet.” Essentially, I took all her opiates. When it was time for her to leave, I knew she’d notice her pills were missing. So, I wrote her a note and left it on her suitcase. Upon returning home, she embraced me, expressing love and concern, unwilling to watch me self-destruct.

On February 3, 1999, she went to her initial meeting, which happened to be the same day she confided in her filmmaker spouse, Christopher Guest, about her battle. He expressed disbelief that he hadn’t noticed before, and since then, she has remained sober.

In 2021, Drew Barrymore announced a significant accomplishment in her personal journey by revealing that she had abstained from alcohol for two and a half years. During an appearance on CBS Mornings, she shared, “I’m going to say something I haven’t said in a while: I haven’t had a drink of alcohol in over two years. It’s something I realized no longer benefits me in my life.

She remarked, “It’s quite amusing. Exposing ourselves, our secrets, and the accomplishments we’ve toiled over can be both empowering and exposing simultaneously.

Later, Barrymore clarified to the Los Angeles Times that she refrains from using the term “sober” as she aims to avoid giving the impression that she is a ‘perfectly pious individual.’

She stated in 2023 that she had been thinking to herself, ‘I’ll conquer this, I’ll find a way,’ but eventually came to understand, ‘However hard I try, I may never truly master this.’

During the early 2000s, the actor from “A Star Is Born” grappled with an addiction to cocaine. However, his friend Will Arnett intervened and addressed his concerning actions directly with him.

In his interview for the Smartless podcast in 2022, Cooper recollected that it was the first moment he acknowledged having issues with substance abuse, an experience he would never forget.

Citing Arnett as the catalyst, Cooper commented, “He dared to have an honest conversation with me which led me to contemplate and ultimately choose a new direction for my life.

In simpler terms, the main actor from Fight Club battled alcohol addiction for quite some time. However, his situation changed for the better when Cooper helped him quit drinking. At the 2020 National Board of Review Annual Awards, he publicly acknowledged this during Cooper’s trophy presentation, stating, “I’ve been happier every day since thanks to this individual.

As a lifestyle enthusiast, I am thrilled to share a personal milestone with you all. September 2023 marked a significant moment for me – the longest stretch since my teenage years that I’ve managed to maintain a clean slate, free from any nicotine or marijuana in my system, and many other substances as well. It’s a testament to personal growth and self-improvement, a journey I am proud to be on. #CleanLiving #PersonalGrowth

He expressed gratitude for the liberation he felt after overcoming addictions and no longer relying on substances. He put it simply: ‘Achieving sobriety, finding mental clarity, and experiencing a deeper spiritual connection truly feels wonderful.’

In 2018, during her tour, the singer proudly marked six years of being sober. However, later in the same year, she shocked her fans by releasing the candid song “Sober”, which disclosed that she had experienced a relapse.

Mom, I’m really sorry I’ve had too much to drink again / Dad, please forgive me for the liquor spilled on the floor / To those who have always been there for me / We’ve gone through this before, and I’m truly sorry, I’m not sober anymore,” she sang.

A month later, Lovato was hospitalized for a near-fatal overdose.

Two weeks ago, she posted on Instagram that she’s been open about her battle with addiction. She went on to explain that this condition doesn’t go away, but rather requires ongoing efforts to conquer. As of now, she needs time to heal and prioritize her sobriety and recovery journey. The support you’ve all shown means a great deal and is something she won’t forget; she eagerly anticipates the day when she can declare victory over this struggle. She vows to keep fighting.

In 2018, she spoke about her struggles with addictions to sex and alcohol. “My addictions can change, they shift. When I was younger, I believe there was an addiction of some sort related to sex, yes, the thought that everything could be resolved through sex,” she explained, before discussing her realization of a serious drinking issue.

She recalled hitting a low point when she was alone at home, with two bottles of wine already consumed and reaching for a third. She paused and thought, “Wait a minute. You’re drinking your third bottle of wine all by yourself at home? Maybe there’s an issue here that needs addressing.

She explained, “I chose to quit abruptly, which is something I often do. You see, I’m a person who can quit cold turkey when necessary. I have a tendency to get deeply involved in things, and I need to be mindful of that. It’s not the action itself that matters, but the reason behind it and the behavior associated with it. For instance, if you enjoy having sex a lot, there’s nothing wrong with that, but you should consider why you’re engaging in such frequent activity. That’s what you need to examine.

One of the Backstreet Boys band members experimented with drugs for the first time prior to filming the music video for “The Call” in 2000. He later confessed to Good Morning America that he was extremely energetic during the shoot due to drug use. In 2021, he managed to overcome his addiction and reported numerous positive changes within a year, including shedding 32 pounds in seven months by giving up alcohol and fast food.

In an interview with Today in September 2022, he stated that alcohol intake led to an increase in his weight, and it had a significant negative impact on his emotional well-being as well.

After Mac Miller’s unexpected passing, the rapper known as Bow Wow (born Shad Moss) used Twitter to confess that he had struggled with an addiction to cough syrup in the past. In a series of tweets, he shared his experience:

“To the youth – stop with these foolish drugs,” he began. “I’m going to let you in on a secret. During the time we worked on the FACE OFF album, I was high on lean every day! When you saw me on BET arguing with Torae, I was high on lean. My attitude and everything changed. My fans started turning against me, even my family. I never promoted lean in my songs, but while on tour with Chris Brown, I was drinking 4’s (code for lean) at least seven times a day. I was addicted until our show in Cincinnati, where I came off stage and passed out. I woke up in the hospital suffering from withdrawals.”

“I have never felt pain like that before,” Bow Wow continued. “It was summer, but I was walking around with three hoodies on because I was so cold. I missed the Chicago show of that tour and the Baltimore show because I was high and sick! That’s not cool, and I was doing it to fit in! Quit that nonsense! Be a good son or daughter. Be the best version of yourself. I’ll start being more vocal. We need to save the youth from dying early. Parents, watch your kids. Explain to them. We want you all to live, man. I almost died messing with syrup.”

“To this day, my stomach will never be the same, and it hasn’t been,” he told his fans. “DRUG FREE IS THE WAY TO BE. Smarten up, tighten up, out here. We can’t afford to lose any more of you. Not one! I love all of you. The young artists, all the kids around the world – don’t follow a trend. Break the cycle. PEACE.

In 2018, Gwyneth Paltrow’s fourth album “No Shame” and memoir “My Thoughts Exactly” were released, with the singer openly discussing her struggles with addiction, revealing that she was heavily dependent on cocaine and alcohol to the extent of being perpetually drunk. It was Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow who staged an intervention following an incident where she accidentally collided heads with Orlando Bloom at Kate Hudson’s Halloween party, resulting in a brief loss of consciousness.

In an interview with The Guardian, she expressed, “It felt like nothing could touch or fulfill me. One morning during those difficult times, I found myself contemplating, ‘Perhaps heroin might be the solution, as nothing else seems effective.’

Actors from The Parent Trap struggled with cocaine addiction during the 1980s, which eventually led him to rehabilitation centers in 1990. In an interview on Today, he shared that his upbringing in the ’60s and ’70s was a time when people held a very different view of drug use.

2018 was a time when I found myself deeply entrenched in a daily routine involving cocaine use, a habit that even crept into certain film production budgets of the ’80s. It wasn’t uncommon for me to find myself on my knees, pleading with God to remove this addiction from my life, promising Him that I would never return to it once the hour hand reached the office clock. Yet, by 4 o’clock in the afternoon, I would often find myself rationalizing that perhaps it wasn’t as bad as I thought.

He described a profound moment, which he referred to as a ‘white light experience.’ During this event, he claimed to have visions of either his own demise or losing all that mattered to him. Overwhelmed, he felt compelled to share this with his fiancé, Meg Ryan, at the time. Following this, he decided it was necessary to seek help and end his relationship with cocaine.

Following an incident involving a hotel door in Newport Beach, Ryan Lochte opted to seek treatment for alcohol addiction in the year 2018. His representative stated to TopMob News that Lochte has been struggling with this issue for many years and unfortunately, it has developed into a self-destructive behavior. Recognizing his need for assistance, he will immediately be receiving professional help to address his problem.

As a lifestyle expert speaking here, I’d rephrase it as follows: “Realizing that overcoming this illness is crucial for me now, I am committed to making healthier choices not just for myself, but also for my family. This battle is essential if I hope to regain my top form in the pool and compete once more in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

It turns out that, having learned that it’s generally unadvisable to give up drinking for someone else, the former star of “Parenthood” found his relationship with actress Melanie Lynskey to be a significant factor in his decision to stop drinking altogether.

He shared during an interview on The Drew Barrymore Show in March 2023 that he realized her extraordinary qualities, believing she would be perfect for someone truly deserving. However, he didn’t see himself as worthy of her, feeling somewhat unstable or eccentric.

However, as Ritter noted to TopMob News, he now sees that sobriety is ultimately a personal choice.

He remembered that in the beginning of their relationship, he found it simpler to claim he was acting for her because at that point, he didn’t think much of his own worth. He didn’t worry about hurting himself as much as he did about causing her pain. Therefore, at first, it was easier for him to say, “I’m doing this for her.” Now, however, he is doing it for himself.

The popular country musician has been living a sober life for almost a decade, yet his journey was marked by significant struggles. His battles with alcohol and prescription pain medication started shortly after high school graduation and persisted even as his career took flight. He confessed to keeping a black leather laptop bag perpetually stocked with Jägermeister or vodka within easy grasp, as he mentioned to People magazine. Throughout the day, he admitted to needing “two or three strong gulps from the bottle every hour and a half to two hours,” and “a pill or two” every three to four hours.

He confessed that it didn’t hinder his achievements, as one might assume. Instead, he thrived – penning more melodies back then than currently. That’s what made it unsettling for him.

In late 2011, he was admitted to the hospital due to pancreatitis, and medical professionals warned him that if he continued drinking, he might not live to see his next birthday. Instead of quitting cold turkey, he tried to moderate his consumption on his own, such as promising himself to take only two pills a day or drink a certain amount from his bottle, even marking the bottle for portion control. This approach worked for a while, but then someone would throw a party and he’d fall off the wagon again.

Eventually, he realized he needed assistance and checked into rehab on December 18, 2011. Gilbert admitted, “I reached a point where I knew I couldn’t tackle it alone. It frustrated me immensely and made me feel ashamed. Despite being quite determined, this was the one aspect of my life that continued to elude me.
