Charisma Carpenter has definitively ruled out any participation in the upcoming Buffy the Vampire Slayer project, which unfortunately means that fans of Cordelia Chase’s character may not see her return.
Contrary to what’s been circulating online, Carpenter has clarified that she currently has no intention of returning to portray her character again, even though she played the role in both the initial show and its Angel counterpart.
In a recent TikTok post, she clarified that people often ask: “Are you involved with the remake?” To set the record straight, she isn’t part of the reboot, pilot, or even aware if the show has been selected for further production. She simply assumes it will be.
The buzz about her coming back to the series was mostly stirred up by the commencement of her Buffy re-run podcast titled “The Bch Is Back.” While many believed this could imply a comeback, it turns out that isn’t the truth.
In my humble opinion as a film enthusiast, I’d like to clarify that the narrative wasn’t designed to be cryptic or suggestive. Instead, it subtly hinted at my character’s involvement in the latest installment of the series, a delightful surprise for the audience, I might add.
For three seasons, Cordelia was a central character in the beloved series that later became iconic. Then, she appeared for four more seasons on the spin-off show centered around Angel. In the last season, her character met an end.
Although it might appear unlikely that a character who’s been pronounced dead could resurface, lead actress and co-producer Sarah Michelle Gellar expresses optimism about reintroducing past characters in a way that leaves room for fresh narratives too.
The remade show went into production a month ago, and Gellar recently posted a backstage picture from the rehearsal of the first episode’s script reading.
In simple terms, Gellar will once again take on her renowned character’s role, though specific details about her involvement are still uncertain. However, it’s been made known that she will share the screen with a young actress named Ryan Kiera Armstrong, who will portray a new generation’s slayer in the series.
When speaking about Armstrong’s role assignment, Gellar commented, “As soon as I watched Ryan’s tryout, it became clear to me which girl I wanted to share the screen with.
It’s a remarkable gift to possess such emotional intelligence and talent at such a tender age. And to top it off, her smile can brighten up the gloomiest of spaces.
