Over time, Wolverine evolved from being an adversary to the Hulk into one of the most well-loved heroes in Marvel comics. This iconic character has collaborated with a multitude of superheroes, both within and outside the Marvel Universe. From the X-Men, Avengers, Fantastic Four, Defenders, SHIELD, and many more groups in the Marvel Universe, Wolverine has formed alliances. He’s fought against some formidable villains, such as Red Skull, Magneto, Doctor Doom, and Galactus. Not only has he demonstrated his famous catchphrase that he’s the best at what he does, but he’s also shown that what he does isn’t always pretty by consistently proving himself on the battlefield.
The iconic comic book giants, Marvel and DC, are once again merging universes, as the aged version of Wolverine, alias Old Man Logan, squares off against an elderly Batman from “The Dark Knight Returns”. Soon enough, the contemporary Wolverine may find himself battling DC’s nefarious villains, making for an exciting showdown. Although there are several DC villains that Wolverine might struggle with, many others would stand no chance against him. Here are seven particularly formidable DC baddies who would meet their match in Wolverine, but only after some serious slicing and dicing!
7) Ra’s al Ghul
Ra’s al Ghul, one of Batman’s toughest adversaries, has tested the might of both the Justice League and the Legion of Superheroes in the past. With his vast power accumulated over centuries, he employs the League of Assassins as a private army. The longevity of Ra’s al Ghul is attributed to the Lazarus Pits, which enable him to rise from the dead, although temporarily in a frenzied state, and continue fighting. These pits have also granted him extraordinary physical abilities. His martial arts skills, honed over a century, make him an exceptional swordsman, often engaging his enemies in sword fights. A confrontation between Ra’s al Ghul and Wolverine would be intriguing. Initially, Ra’s might scorn Wolverine, considering him no more than a beast. However, this would provide Wolverine with an opportunity to outsmart him. Despite having more experience than Wolverine, Ra’s al Ghul will face challenges from Wolverine’s unyielding skeleton, self-healing ability, natural strength, speed, and combat expertise. It promises to be a brutal encounter, but then again, aren’t all Wolverine fights? In the end, it seems that Ra’s al Ghul would need the Lazarus Pit to stand a chance against Wolverine.
6) Deadshot
Among the most formidable mercenaries exists Deadshot, known for his exceptional skill with firearms. Originally, he was a flamboyant riverboat gambler villain, renowned for his marksmanship with pistols. Following a series of significant setbacks, Deadshot underwent a transformation, evolving into the ruthless adversary we are familiar with today.
Devoid of superhuman abilities, Deadshot’s intelligence has been demonstrated in his interactions with enemies endowed with powers, as part of teams such as the Suicide Squad and Secret Six. Despite being an exceptional marksman and able to withstand considerable punishment, Deadshot remains human, which could prove detrimental in a confrontation against Wolverine.
Although Deadshot will undoubtedly manage to land some shots on Wolverine, it’s unlikely to make much of a difference. Wolverine’s indestructible skeleton and regenerative powers ensure he can endure anything Deadshot can throw at him. While Deadshot maintains an advantage in reach, this is temporary. Once Wolverine manages to close the distance, the outcome of the fight is essentially decided.
Wolverine exhibits superior strength, speed, and combat skills, allowing him to weather any assault Deadshot may launch. This advantage will likely enable him to secure a decisive victory in their encounter.
5) Merlyn
Green Arrow has experienced numerous thrilling escapades; yet, unlike many other iconic characters from his lineage, he lacks a formidable rogues gallery. Nevertheless, he does possess a handful of competent adversaries, one of whom is Merlyn. Initially associated with the League of Assassins, Merlyn fought alongside Ra’s and Talia al Ghul against Batman. Skilled in archery like Green Arrow, Merlyn eventually turned into his nemesis. As an elite member of the League, Merlyn excels in hand-to-hand combat, making him formidable even without his bow and arrow. However, he stands little chance against Wolverine. While Merlyn can momentarily deter Wolverine, the latter has previously withstood numerous arrows and persevered. With his indestructible bones and healing factor, Wolverine can endure shots to vital organs such as eyes, lungs, or heart (albeit those would require shooting through his ribs, but Merlyn is capable of making such a shot). This confrontation will boil down to a one-on-one battle, and in that scenario, Wolverine emerges victorious. Merlyn is proficient, but Wolverine’s skills are far superior, and he would easily overpower the villain.
4) Vandal Savage
In simpler terms, Wolverine often faces opponents less experienced than him, but there’s one DC villain, Vandal Savage, who boasts a level of experience that surpasses even Wolverine’s. Centuries ago, Vandal Savage was a caveman who discovered a meteorite, which granted him extraordinary abilities such as superhuman strength, durability, agility, a healing factor, high intelligence, and immortality. Throughout the ages, he has traveled extensively, honed his combat skills, invented unprecedented weapons, accumulated vast wealth, and survived countless battles.
Vandal Savage versus Wolverine is an exhilarating prospect, with Savage’s experience edge and potential superior strength contrasting Wolverine’s speed and ferocity. This clash would likely result in both combatants inflicting significant damage on each other. However, Wolverine, with his resilience, could sustain more damage than Savage can dishing out, which may ultimately determine the outcome.
The encounter between Vandal Savage and Wolverine will be one that Wolverine won’t easily forget, and he’ll likely find it chilling to reminisce about their battle. Nevertheless, Wolverine is predicted to emerge victorious from this epic confrontation.
3) The Joker
Batman has very few individuals who instill fear in him, and at the pinnacle of that list stands the Joker. Known as the most treacherous criminal in a city teeming with criminals of extraordinary danger, the Joker excels in deadly weapons, particularly gases and poisons. Although he’s not a martial artist, his cunning and dangerous combat skills can keep Batman on edge in hand-to-hand combat. Despite his unassuming appearance, the Joker possesses superhuman strength and speed. His madness conceals a shrewd villain who has devised strategies to prevail against insurmountable odds. Nonetheless, none of this would aid him much against Wolverine in battle. The Joker’s expertise with gas attacks might provide an initial edge, but the healing factor within Wolverine would eventually counteract it. Wolverine, with his resilience, is nearly unbeatable when facing human adversaries – unfortunately for the Joker, this is exactly what he is. While the confrontation would be intriguing, the Joker’s reputation as a formidable combatant is overstated; he may land some cunning blows, but Wolverine will ultimately defeat the Joker.
2) Bane
In contrast to other DC villains, Bane stands out for having defeated Batman not just once, but twice – a remarkable feat. He inflicted a severe injury on Batman by breaking his back during combat and later ousted him from Gotham City temporarily due to his dominance. This dual victory sets Bane apart as one of Batman’s most formidable adversaries. Interestingly, Bane shares many characteristics with Batman; he’s an accomplished hand-to-hand combatant, extraordinarily strong and agile without the performance-enhancing drug Venom, and a cunning tactician on par with other villains. A confrontation between Bane and Wolverine would undoubtedly be intense, as both characters are powerful fighters. Since Wolverine often engages in battles against super strong opponents like the Hulk, Bane’s strength will not deter him. Wolverine can endure more damage, while his claws will prove effective against Bane. While Bane may inflict some harm on Wolverine, it is unlikely that he would emerge victorious in a fight against the indomitable Wolverine.
1) Deathstroke
As a die-hard DC fan, let me tell you, Deathstroke stands tall among the most formidable villains in our universe. His journey began as a skilled soldier, selected for an elite super soldier program that gifted him with superhuman strength, agility, and an enhanced mind.
This lethal combination has made him a master tactician, orchestrating victories even against teams of powerful heroes. Deathstroke is unbeatable – he always survives and comes back stronger than ever, making him incredibly dangerous.
When it comes to epic battles, the face-off between Deathstroke and Wolverine is hands down one of the coolest fights out there. Both are extraordinary soldiers, renowned for their strength, resilience, and combat skills. Deathstroke will surely give Wolverine a run for his money, but Wolverine’s indomitable spirit ensures he’ll keep fighting back.
In the end, Deathstroke will reach his limit, unable to inflict enough damage on Wolverine. And that’s when the fight ends. Wolverine is almost unstoppable, and Deathstroke will learn to respect – or perhaps even fear – him.
