In the realm of Marvel Comics, the variety of teams and collaborations can sometimes overwhelm even dedicated fans. It’s not a complaint, though, as having numerous options is often a delight in life, and especially so when it comes to comic books. Seeing our beloved characters intertwine on the pages, forming alliances, and joining forces to save the day, is an utter joy. Although there are numerous iconic teams and duos already established, fans can’t help but dream of countless other combinations they’d love to witness (or revisit). Despite the slim chances, it’s a wish among fans for these pairs to have their own series.
There are numerous reasons to cheer for the odd partnerships in Marvel Comics, and one great example is the Spider-Man/Deadpool series. It was truly remarkable, wasn’t it? The possibilities are endless when you consider all the potential combinations. Regrettably, we can’t witness them all, so let’s discuss a few of our preferred team-ups instead. These duos have a lot to offer, from long-standing friendships to individuals who share similar goals and should spend more time together.
1) Richard Rider & Sam Alexander
Our greatest joy is witnessing various generations of heroic figures unite. Consequently, it’s only natural that we’d be thrilled to have Richard Rider and Sam Alexander share their own story. Though both of them bear the title of Nova, it’s clear they are distinct individuals with unique qualities.
Richard Rider is a renowned cosmic figure within the Marvel universe, with a rich history that spans over several decades. He’s faced and survived extraordinary events, some of which were downright crazy. At one point, he was the solitary Nova in the galaxy, shoulderng both the responsibility and power alone, along with the Worldmind. This phase is significant for fans of Nova, and naturally, this hero has a lot to share about his solo journey.
Currently, Sam Alexander is a relatively fresh face among the superhero lineup. He’s collaborated with several youthful teams in Marvel, such as the Champions. As of now, his narrative hasn’t been fully explored, leaving much untapped potential ripe for discovery. Envisioning these two heroes joining forces for an extended series is an exciting prospect.
2) Jessica Drew & Carol Danvers
Jessica Drew and Carol Danvers share a lifelong bond of friendship that remains unwavering. They’ve been each other’s confidants in both their roles as superheroes and regular friends, standing by one another in all circumstances. Their friendship is consistently present, even when it subtly adds depth to the storyline. Carol displayed extraordinary care during Jessica’s pregnancy, ensuring her well-being and safety, a concern that continues post-pregnancy as she supports the new mother.
Instead of Jess constantly reminding Carol to stay grounded, it’s Carol who often helps Jess keep her feet on the ground. With an insatiable work ethic that characterizes most superheroes, Carol could easily overwork herself if not for Jess. This duo is heartwarming and entertaining, yet they aren’t afraid to step up when necessary. The fans have loved their joint appearances, particularly in Captain Marvel’s standalone series. We yearn for a series focusing exclusively on these two as they band together to combat Earth’s villains.
3) Danny Rand & Luke Cage (Reprise)
Danny Rand and Luke Cage make an iconic team, and their shared series has already been released. However, fans are eager for more. These two heroes embody the essence of standing by each other through thick and thin. Together, they founded Heroes for Hire, making them a popular choice for another collaboration. What sets them apart is their unique approach to handling street-level superheroes.
In simpler terms, certain individuals have a knack for inspiring greatness in others, and this dynamic can work reciprocally. For instance, Danny and Luke are those kinds of people. Danny has consistently supported Luke through various adventures, such as joining the Avengers during Luke and Jessica’s leadership tenure, teaming up with Heroes for Hire, and even rescuing Luke when Jessica feared he might fall prey to the Purple Man. Danny Rand stands as a steadfast ally for Luke Cage, which we wholeheartedly appreciate in their relationship.
4) Kamala Khan & Miles Morales
Kamala Khan and Miles Morales might appear as distinct superheroes, yet they collectively embody the spirit and essence of today’s crop of heroes across both Marvel comic books and the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). However, it is more evident in the comics that they truly symbolize this generation. They have collaborated numerous times, from the Young Avengers to the Champions, not to mention their joint efforts outside of structured team scenarios.
By the close of day, these two champions are indeed steadfast companions. They’ve both felt the burden of the world upon their shoulders, and they stand ready to lend a helping hand when needed. Above all, they exhibit unwavering dedication and fervor for the future heroes, knowing precisely what they aspire for them. Undeniably, we eagerly anticipate delving deeper into their adventures, and witnessing their joint journey ahead promises to be captivating.
5) Magik & Scarlet Witch
Discussing Magik and Scarlet Witch, we’re referring to formidable characters whose magical backgrounds differ significantly. Unconventionally, a solo series focusing on these two could offer an intriguing perspective. Wanda Maximoff possesses the power to manipulate reality at will, a skill that has dramatically affected mutants on multiple occasions. On the other hand, Illyana Rasputina, also known as Magik, is a mutant with magical abilities, making her storyline intricate and captivating.
Essentially, these two characters possess distinct origins, yet are equally renowned for their extraordinary magical skills. Depending on the narrative, their powers could either stir up chaos or bring resolution. Their capabilities know no bounds, much like their magic itself.
6) Laura & Gabby Kinney
In simpler terms, both Laura and Gabby Kinney are characters from Marvel Comics who share a unique connection. While fans might know them as sisters, their relationship is actually more complex due to genetic manipulation. Laura, also known as Wolverine, X-23, or Talon, is a clone of the original Wolverine. Her backstory includes traumatic events, such as being raised to be an assassin and eventually joining the X-Men after rebelling against her creators. Gabby Kinney, on the other hand, is another clone, one among many created by Alchemax Genetics. She developed a strong bond with Laura due to their shared identity as clones and her protective nature towards her sisters.
Similar to her sibling, Gabby also endured several harrowing experiences, among which was the tragic loss of many of her other siblings. These two have forged a robust family bond, reinforced by Jonathan the Indomitable (a real-life wolverine). Lately, they’ve found themselves relegated to secondary roles in Marvel narratives, particularly when they join forces. However, fans eagerly anticipate more thrilling escapades these sisters might embark upon together.
7) Jessica Jones & Patsy Walker
Despite their distinct personalities, the pairing of Jessica Jones and Patsy Walker is surprisingly effective. For viewers who have only encountered Jessica in the Netflix series, it’s essential to clarify that they are not related by blood or adoption; quite the contrary, they’re comic book characters. Luckily, they do collaborate in Marvel Comics. For instance, in one storyline, Patsy hires Jessica to sort out a publishing rights dispute she’s having (being a teenage star and all), while Jessica has enlisted Patsy to attend her wedding and babysit her child.
Jess and Patsy might not share the unbreakable bond of Marvel’s iconic duos, but their alliance offers significant comedic and action-packed possibilities. Their contrasting characters promise a stream of humor, while their distinct abilities imply that any predicament they find themselves in could potentially be quite perilous.
8) Peter Parker & Johnny Storm
Peter Parker, better known as Spider-Man, and Johnny Storm, often referred to as The Human Torch, form an entertaining and unforgettable duo. These two are Marvel’s iconic pair, full of humor, affection, and bravery that leaves audiences wanting more. Some might even call them the original bromance, a title we can’t argue with! Their dynamic is a unique blend of laughter, heartfelt moments, and heroism. They play pranks on each other when the moment strikes, but they are also each other’s strongest allies.
Indeed, it’s common knowledge that the 2005 Spider-Man/Human Torch series exists, but it underscores our argument even further! Written by Dan Slott, this series brilliantly paired two captivating heroes, and we could certainly use more collaborations of this kind. At least, these two have had a fair share of team-ups in Marvel’s rich history.
9) Wolverine & Jubilee
After making his debut, Wolverine has taken on the role (occasionally reluctantly) of mentor and surrogate father to numerous Marvel superheroes. This is likely due to the appeal of watching the solitary grump transform in situations that reveal a more compassionate side of his character. Meet Jubilee, also known as Jubilation Lee. She’s an energetic and spirited character, and her mutation mirrors her lively personality.
In my experience, they’re a quintessential portrayal of the grumpy-yet-lovable father figure and the energetic child with sparks flying, if you will (without the romantic undertones). Our connection has been deeply rooted in the ’90s animated series, and though both have evolved since then, that bond continues to resonate within us.
10) Storm & Jean Grey
Storm (Ororo Munroe) and Jean Grey are not only crucial figures within the X-Men group, they each possess extraordinary abilities that make them powerhouses in their own rights. Combined, they have the potential to save the world multiple times over. This dynamic duo could captivate readers with a storyline teeming with emotional nuances, complex power struggles, and a profound sense of sisterhood. They’ve faced numerous challenges throughout their journey, from retcons to power enhancements, but rarely do we delve into their unique partnership outside the team. Could such an exploration occur? Absolutely! A series centered around their individual dynamics and dangers could introduce exciting new dimensions to their characters.
We adore Storm and Jean Grey because they stand out among others. Now, they mainly encourage and empower each other, which is a quality many would benefit from seeing more of, not just in the realm of superheroes.
