After the acquisition of 21st Century Fox by Disney, the X-Men movies have been accessible for streaming on Disney+, along with exclusive titles like “X-Men ’97”. Now, in a surprising decision, all X-Men film series can now be streamed on Hulu.
As a cinephile with a soft spot for the X-Men franchise, I’m thrilled to share that Disney’s acquisition of Hulu has opened up a treasure trove of mutant adventures for streaming! Now, you can delve into classics like X-Men, X2: X-Men United, and X-Men: The Last Stand, all the way up to more recent entries such as X-Men: Days of Future Past, X-Men: Apocalypse, X-Men: Dark Phoenix, The New Mutants, and even the gritty masterpiece, Logan.
However, it’s worth noting that some of these films are only accessible through Hulu’s Premium Subscriptions. So, if you’re as excited about mutant mayhem as I am, consider upgrading your account to get the full X-perience!
The shift is imminent as Disney plans to phase out the separate Hulu app by integrating it with Disney+ into a single streaming platform in the following year. Over the next few months, modifications to both Disney+ and Hulu will take place, enhancing their services. As these streaming platforms start merging, expect an increase in titles from 20th Century Fox on Hulu’s library.
The history of the X-Men movies produced by Fox has been a complex one for fans of comic book mutants. While not consistently staying true to the source material, these films experienced various highs and lows. Starting with the 2000 release of the first movie, X-Men, which achieved an 82% score on Rotten Tomatoes and grossed $296.3 million globally, was a promising beginning for the ongoing series. However, as time went on, the Rotten Tomatoes ratings for the franchise continued to drop. Strikingly, despite some films being panned by critics and audiences alike, they maintained sufficient box office performance that enabled 20th Century Fox to commission new editions throughout the years.
The X-Men franchise received a fresh start in 2011 with the release of X-Men: First Class, which garnered an excellent 86% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and generated $352.6 million globally from a $160 million investment. This was followed by X-Men: Days of Future Past in 2014, which received even more positive reviews (90%) and made a whopping $746 million worldwide. However, the series began to falter with X-Men: Apocalypse in 2016 and X-Men: Dark Phoenix in 2019. Unfortunately, these films were met with poor reviews – Apocalypse received a dismal 47% on Rotten Tomatoes, while Dark Phoenix earned an even worse 22%. Despite the inconsistency of the First Class series, Fox managed to achieve success with the Deadpool and Wolverine movies during the 2010s.
After the X-Men, the upcoming movie is titled “Avengers: Doomsday”. This film brings back some of the original cast members from the X-Men series. Notably returning are Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, Patrick Stewart as Professor Charles Xavier/Professor X, James Marsden as Scott Summers/Cyclops, Ian McKellen as Erik Lehnsherr/Magneto, Alan Cumming as Kurt Wagner/Nightcrawler, and Kelsey Grammer as Hank McCoy/Beast. “Avengers: Doomsday” is set to premiere in theaters on December 18, 2026. In the meantime, fans can stream all X-Men films on Hulu and Disney+, with the addition of “X-Men ’97”, which is exclusive to Disney+.
