Following Pedro Pascal’s debut as Mister Fantastic in “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” a new wave of fan art imagines him alongside his Marvel Cinematic Universe counterparts. “First Steps” introduced a fresh take on Marvel’s First Family, featuring Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn, who breathed life into the legendary superhero team from Marvel Comics within the MCU. This version of The Fantastic Four marks the fifth time they’ve appeared on screen, and the Multiverse Saga opens possibilities for earlier versions to make a comeback.
Pedro Pascal is set to reappear in the 2026 film “Avengers: Doomsday,” a movie centered around the multiverse that will also welcome back some iconic Marvel characters. Characters like various versions of Mister Fantastic might be part of this ensemble, as depicted in fan art shared by @clements.ink on Instagram. This art showcases Alex Hyde-White, Ioan Gruffudd, Miles Teller, John Krasinski, and Pedro Pascal as different portrayals of Reed Richards’ Mister Fantastic. If all goes according to plan, these five actors will unite in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) during Phase 6.
Alex Hyde-White initially played the character Mister Fantastic in live-action, first appearing in the unproduced 1994 movie “The Fantastic Four”. More recently, he made a guest appearance alongside his fellow cast members from that film – Rebecca Staab, Jay Underwood, and Michael Bailey Smith – in “The Fantastic Four: First Steps”, reminiscent of their less-viewed Marvel’s First Family escapade. Not until 2005 did Ioan Gruffudd step into the role as Mister Fantastic for Tim Story’s “Fantastic Four”, a part he later reprised in the 2007 film “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer”.
For eight years following the release of Story’s 2007 sequel, filmmakers Josh Trank and 20th Century Fox endeavored to reboot Fantastic Four in 2015. This fresh take drew inspiration from the Ultimate Universe version of Reed Richards found in Marvel Comics, with Miles Teller portraying Richards and capturing some of his darker traits. However, the storyline was marred by weak writing. In 2019, the Fantastic Four were returned to Marvel Studios’ control, and John Krasinski made an appearance as Reed Richards from Earth 838 in the 2022 film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. He was a member of the superhero team known as the Illuminati in that version.
Before his role in Multiverse of Madness, Krasinski was widely anticipated as Mister Fantastic by fans. However, his debut didn’t resonate positively with MCU viewers, leading Marvel Studios to look for a fresh Reed Richards for the reboot of The Fantastic Four: First Steps. It would be exciting if earlier portrayals could have a comeback to correct some of their underwhelming aspects and provide a heartfelt farewell. Pedro Pascal is now the MCU’s definitive Mister Fantastic, offering him ample opportunity to deepen Reed Richards’ character compared to previous interpretations.
