And Just Like That Brings Samantha Back for Subtle Season 3 Cameo

heads up: The following article reveals significant plot points from the June 26th episode of And Just Like That… titled “Under the Table.

And just like that, the fab four are back together again…well, sort of.

Approximately two years following the fleeting Season 2 finale appearance of Samantha Jones, portrayed by Kim Cattrall, on “And Just Like That”, her cherished character made an unexpected reappearance in the series’ third season. However, unlike before, this time she was seen only through text messages.

In the June 26 episode, Sarah Jessica Parker’s character, Carrie Bradshaw, is clashing with her downstairs neighbor Duncan Reeves, portrayed by Jonathan Cake, over his complaint of her excessive noise from her high heels. Curious about him, Carrie delves into his past and discovers he’s a well-known British author. Given Samantha now resides in London, Carrie reaches out to Samantha, her old friend, to find if she knows anything about him.

Indeed, her response matches perfectly. Samantha says, “They say he’s full of laughter. What gives?” Then, Carrie discloses that he resides beneath her, and in keeping with the PR executives’ clever banter, she replies, “I wish he was below me.

In the episode, although Kim (known for playing Samantha in the original Sex and the City) doesn’t make a physical appearance, this brief scene demonstrates that her character and Carrie are still on friendly terms. It’s not unprecedented for these two to discuss men through text messages, as they have done so previously.

In the final episode of season one of “Reboot” in 2021, Carrie confessed to Samantha that she had kissed her former flame Peter, portrayed by Jon Tenny. Following a short conversation, they agreed to meet for drinks before Carrie departed Paris for New York.

In a recent turn of events, Samantha’s brief appearance is almost two years following Kim announcing that she wouldn’t be part of the show “And Just Like That“.

In June 2023, she told the Today show that she had reached her limit, but clarified that she would always cherish the role. “I don’t believe I’ll ever truly part ways with Samantha,” she said. “She’s similar to many other characters I’ve played over the years. I develop strong emotions and a sense of protection for my characters. She has given me so much, and I am incredibly grateful for her.

And Just Like That isn’t the only series serving up surprise character lore this season.
