The Chinese Room has unveiled a fresh trailer for their upcoming role-playing game, “Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2.” This trailer is part of a weekly video series the studio intends to share leading up to the October 21 launch of the game. Titled as the Fabien trailer, it spotlights the main character, Fabien – a Malkavian detective who finds himself in protagonist Phyre’s thoughts. Have a look at it below!
In these moments when the player chooses to pause after sunrise, we delve deeper into Fabien’s character. During these pauses, players find themselves transported to 1920s Seattle, embodying Fabien as he embarks on his solitary mission to unravel the mystery surrounding his own murder. In these segments of gameplay, players get a glimpse into an earlier version of Seattle, the primary setting of the game, and interact with characters that, being vampires, could potentially still be active after Phyre wakes up at night for their conversations.
Due to Fabien belonging to the Malkavian vampire clan, some of his unusual characteristics are highlighted. Known for their eccentricity bordering on insanity, members of this clan engage in conversations with non-living objects and sometimes seem to be having unrelated discussions compared to what’s being said to them by NPCs. This peculiar behavior is evident in the trailer where Fabien engages a tape recorder in conversation, inquiring about its eavesdropping activities. Furthermore, the trailer also hints at the mind-manipulation abilities that are commonly associated with Malkavians.
Sadly, unlike my favorite vampire game from before, Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines, the new Bloodlines 2 won’t let me play as Malkavians. Instead, they’ve got six unique clans for us to explore: Brujah, Banu Haqim, Tremere, Ventrue, Toreador, and Lasombra. To make things trickier, the studio’s confirmed that Toreador and Lasombra will only be accessible if I fork out extra cash for the Shadows & Silk add-on pack. Oh, and guess what? That very same add-on pack is also included in the $89.99 Premium Edition of the game.
In the universe of “Vampire: The Masquerade,” since its initial tabletop RPG rulebooks were released, Clans have played a significant role. To put it simply, they are akin to classes in traditional fantasy RPGs. Each Clan not only signifies a character’s position within vampire society but also influences the unique abilities that character possesses.
For instance, Brujah vampires are characterized by their raw power and agility, making them ideally suited for combat roles such as frontline warriors or bodyguards. In stark contrast, Ventrue vampires excel in manipulation of others and can often be found governing their domains from luxurious penthouse suites.
Following a bumpy development process for Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, which involved changes in the development teams at certain stages, The Chinese Room and publisher Paradox Interactive recently confirmed that the game will be released on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S on October 21. This announcement was accompanied by a new trailer, and it also became known that pre-orders are now open.
