Game Science unveiled “Black Myth: Zhong Kui,” choosing instead for a complete sequel rather than an expansion for “Black Myth: Wukong.” This unexpected move left fans in suspense, as they had anticipated a sequel featuring Jiang Ziya. However, the developer has decided to take a different approach. Originally, “Black Myth: Wukong” was exclusive to PlayStation 5, but it is now also available on Xbox Series X|S. With the second game in the Black Myth series being announced at Gamescom, fans are optimistic that it will launch on Xbox consoles on day one, as suggested by a recent leak.
The game titled “Black Myth: Zhong Kui” is currently under development and rumors hint that it will be available on both Xbox and PlayStation platforms simultaneously at launch, unlike its predecessor “Black Myth: Wukong“. However, it’s important to note that the game may still be several years away from release, with some predictions suggesting a possible 2028 debut. In the meantime, fans are advised to manage their anticipation levels.
Based on the report, it appears that the game titled Black Myth: Zhong Kui will share similarities with its predecessor, Black Myth: Wukong. The gameplay is reminiscent of Souls-like titles and boasts a comparable level design. Unlike Elden Ring, players will encounter several expansive open areas instead of an entirely open world. Given the acclaim that Black Myth: Wukong received, fans who appreciated it can anticipate that Zhong Kui will provide an engaging experience.
Who is Zhong Kui?

In comparison, Sun Wukong is widely recognized, whereas Zhong Kui is less familiar. Labeling Zhong Kui as a Chinese adaptation of Ghost Rider may seem simplistic yet it’s fitting. As per Chinese legend, Zhong Kui is depicted as a massive, unattractive man with a thick black beard and prominent eyes. Despite excelling in the imperial examinations, his physical appearance resulted in him losing his title. In despair, Zhong Kui ended his life against the palace gates.
As a dedicated admirer, I can’t help but marvel at the intriguing lore behind my esteemed counterpart, the legendary figure known as Zhong Kui. In the realm of the afterlife, he was bestowed the grand title, the King of Ghosts, by Yanluo Wang, a prestigious judge in the Chinese underworld.
With this newfound role came an extraordinary responsibility: to hunt and banish ghosts, a task that I can only imagine would be both challenging and rewarding. This rich mythology, coupled with the fact that he commands over 80,000 demons, provides a wealth of inspiration for Game Science as they envision the potential of “Black Myth: Zhong Kui“, particularly in its narrative and gameplay aspects.
However, whether the Xbox leak about the game is authentic or not remains uncertain. If Black Myth: Zhong Kui does indeed release on Xbox, it’s expected to be several years before its completion. In the meantime, fans continue to harbor optimism for additional content for Black Myth: Wukong.
