According to a statement posted on the official Bungie website, the CEO of Destiny 2 developer Bungie, Pete Parsons, has chosen to relinquish his position. In his place, Justin Truman has been appointed as the new studio leader.
Prior to assuming a leadership position in 2015, Parsons had been employed at Bungie for an extended period. During this time, the studio was simultaneously creating content for the first release of Destiny and working on the development of Destiny 2.
In simpler terms, Parsons wrote that after over 20 years of contributing significantly to the growth of this remarkable studio, founding the Bungie Foundation, and fostering wonderful communities around our projects, he has chosen to hand over his leadership role. This journey, filled with immense pride, has been a lifetime achievement for him. He is incredibly proud of the virtual worlds we’ve created together and the multitude of players who consider them their home. Above all, he cherishes the opportunity to collaborate with the brilliant minds at Bungie.
In my gaming world, I’ve been a loyal trooper at Bungie for a solid fifteen years now. Currently, I’m donning the mantle of General Manager for Destiny 2, and that’s not all – I’ve also been appointed as the Chief Development Officer, keeping the creative engines running smooth.
In a post, it was stated: “I’ve collaborated with Justin for quite some time. His love for our games, our squad, and our players is incomparable. As an expert in engineering, production, and design, and more recently as the General Manager of Destiny 2 and our Chief Development Officer, he has played a crucial role in creating some of Bungie’s most unforgettable historical moments. He embodies this studio, and I firmly believe that he is the ideal individual to guide Bungie into the future.
As a dedicated gamer and Bungie collaborator, I dived deep into sharing my journey with the team, starting from my days as an engineer for the groundbreaking original Destiny. I was instrumental in crafting several gameplay mechanics within Destiny 2, including some endgame systems that garnered mixed responses upon its initial release. Currently, as the Chief Development Officer, I’m juggling projects like Marathon and Destiny 2, ensuring we deliver nothing but top-notch gaming experiences for our passionate community.
Truman expressed his dedication to working closely with each team member as we all continue to put our heart and soul into the creation of these cherished universes. These universes are dear to us and we hope they have captivated your time and emotion just as they have ours. After all, it is your presence that gives them life and allows them to flourish.
Previously in this month, it was announced that Bungie will be merged into PlayStation Studios as part of a gradual process. In the press release, Chief Financial Officer Lin Tao mentioned that Bungie’s autonomy is becoming less pronounced over time.
In addition to creating additional content for Destiny 2, Bungie has also been engaged in the production of their extraction shooter, Marathon. However, the game appears to have faced some challenges during development, leading to a delay from its initial release date on September 23. Unfortunately, they did not provide a new release date at that time.
When it finally comes out, Marathon will be coming to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
