The Nintendo Switch 2’s success continues Nintendo’s luck, despite the current market challenges such as tariffs and increased production costs causing console prices to rise. Nintendo has already elevated the price of the original Nintendo Switch, while Sony and Microsoft have also increased the cost for Xbox and PlayStation 5. However, the Nintendo Switch 2 remains at $449.99 for now. However, there’s speculation among fans that a price hike might be imminent, leaving many wondering when it will happen.
According to analyst ZhugeEX, there have been discussions at Nintendo about potentially increasing the price of the Nintendo Switch 2. Due to anticipated tariffs that could affect their profits, it’s predicted that Nintendo won’t increase the console’s price in the current year but might consider doing so in 2026 for a specific reason.
It seems that most people agree Nintendo plans to aggressively market the Nintendo Switch 2 during the holiday season. To boost sales, they’ll likely hold off on raising the price until after that time. A price hike could significantly reduce sales, which would also impact game sales. Delaying the increase until after the holidays enables fans to buy the console and become more inclined to purchase future Nintendo Switch 2 games in 2026 and beyond.
Incidentally, Nintendo considered increasing the cost of Switch 2 when tariffs temporarily rose to 10% in Vietnam. Now they’ve climbed to 20%. This undoubtedly affects their profit margins. Although they might not be inclined to boost prices at this moment, I could foresee them rethinking this decision next year.

As a dedicated fan, I’ve noticed that both the Nintendo Switch and its accessories have recently undergone a price hike, ranging from $40 to $50. Considering this trend, if Nintendo decides to increase the price of the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, it might follow a similar pattern. However, it’s essential to remember that this is an expectation based on the similarity between the two consoles, not a guaranteed fact.
Nintendo has started raising prices for its video games individually, and this trend applies to upgrading a Nintendo Switch game to a Nintendo Switch 2 version as well. The Nintendo Switch 2 is expected to be the future of Nintendo, so it’s likely that many new games will be exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2 instead of being available on both the original and updated versions.
Anyone planning to get a Nintendo Switch 2 might want to think about making their purchase before the end of next year, as there’s a possibility of a price hike in 2026. However, it’s still uncertain. Noteworthy is that all other major consoles have experienced a price increase this year, except for the Nintendo Switch 2 so far.
