Summer I Turned Pretty’s Gavin Casalegno Speaks Out on Jeremiah Hate

It’s the summer that Gavin Casalegno cleared the air.

As a devoted fan and follower, I’m sharing that the actor, who brings Jeremiah Fischer to life so vividly in “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” recently broke his silence on the passionate backlash his character has been facing during the ongoing third and final season of this popular Amazon Prime series.

For Gavin, the criticism he’s faced regarding his character-who is soon to marry a character from Lola Tung’s series, Belly, even though he was unfaithful to her only weeks prior-finds it rather amusing.

In a conversation with The New York Times on August 22, the individual shared that many people seem to have a negative sentiment towards him. However, since he no longer uses Instagram frequently, his direct exposure to such negativity has been minimal. The only instances of it he’s aware of are when his sister forwards humorous memes related to him to him.

He added, “It’s crucial to bear in mind that this tale is merely imaginative – it doesn’t represent who I am.

Last summer, Gavin tied the knot with Cheyanne King. He shared that though both him and Jeremiah have outgoing personalities, he feels slightly maturer compared to his role in life.

He mentioned that when it comes to the more youthful aspects, including partying, he was never someone who enjoyed such activities. In truth, they don’t reflect his personality at all.

Even though he manages to distance himself emotionally from the negative feedback his character is receiving, he admitted that it’s still difficult for him to come across numerous rude comments.

In my passionate fervor, I cannot help but exclaim that I firmly believe there isn’t a soul on earth capable of bearing such heavy emotional burdens as situations like these seem to demand.

Yet, he pondered over the fact that though his stint on the show, mirroring Jenny Han’s book series of the same title, proved to be demanding, it was an experience he found incredibly rewarding, referring to it as his “dream job.

He had previously encountered Jenny Han’s works, and he believed this project would be an excellent fit for him. As it turned out, his assumption was correct. This story is remarkable because it triggers memories of love in readers, transporting them back to their childhoods and summer experiences, as well as their first loves – it resonates deeply with people.

Instead of starting during Belly Conklin’s (played by Lola Tung) final days of her freshman year, the third season of “The Summer I Turned Pretty” unfolds towards the end of her junior year in college.

In the show, it’s important to clarify that Jeremiah Fisher, played by Gavin Casalegno, didn’t actually start cheating on Belly after only two years together. Instead, they had been in a relationship for a full four years before the infidelity occurred. The character portraying Lacie Barone is Lily Donoghue.

Prior to opening her dorm room for her freshman year – a scene that unfolds in the initial minutes of the season premiere – her brother Steven Conklin (Sean Kaufman) hastily wrote “Belly” over her full name “Isabel” on the door. In later scenes, her college friend Anika Johnson (Sofia Bryant) refers to her as Belly.

However, in the book, Belly didn’t correct anyone who called her by her government name.

In the book, she mentioned, “It wasn’t intentional for me to begin going by Isabel. It sort of happened on its own,” she said. She also recollected, “I recall fumbling with my key and looking up at the door when I noticed it. ‘Isabel,’ it was spelled out in glue-on rhinestones.

Afterward, Isabel identified herself to her roommate Jillian Chapel, and henceforth, that’s the name everyone at Finch would refer to her by.

Jenny Han’s “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before,” which kicked off a trilogy and was eventually adapted for Netflix, was published three years after “We’ll Always Have Summer.” However, the series subtly acknowledged its predecessor by incorporating small tributes in the form of Easter eggs.

In simpler terms, one of Belly’s dorm room decorations was a picture showing her and Jeremiah dressed up as Peter Kavinsky and Lara Jean Covey – characters from a book. During Christmas, Conrad Fisher (Chris Briney) was working on a crossword puzzle with Belly, and the sequel to that book, titled “P.S. I Still Love You,” served as a clue in the puzzle.

In the initial season of the TV show, Conrad’s battles with mental health issues, such as anxiety attacks, were delved into. Amidst it all, he tried to maintain composure after discovering that Susannah Fisher, played by Rachel Blanchard, was diagnosed with cancer once more.

As I sat before my therapist, by the third visit, the anticipation brewing within me was palpable. The destination: Cousins Beach, a place where memories of Susannah were as vivid as ever. My heart swelled with excitement and trepidation as we delved into my apprehensions about attending an event there, dedicated to her in her honor. Though our conversation veered away from the intricate tapestry of emotions entwined within my love triangle, I found solace knowing that I was, at least, on the path towards being there.

In the show, Belly discovers that her name has been moved from the standby list for studying overseas in Paris during the next semester, thereby preventing her from sharing a dorm with Anika in the autumn season. At this juncture, Jeremiah hadn’t made his proposal yet.

In the book, she adjusts her travel arrangements due to an unforeseen wedding, which Anika comprehends. As she communicates with Belly, she explains, “I’m not angry. To be honest, it’s disappointing that we won’t be living together, but I can find a solution.

In the books, the relationship between Taylor Jewel, also known as Rain Spencer, and Steven isn’t delved into. However, their tumultuous romance takes a supporting role in the most recent season. Despite Taylor being involved with fraternity member Davis and Steven dating Mia, their secret affair began when they reconnected in Manhattan during spring break – the same week Jeramiah was caught cheating on Belly.

While driving, Steven informs Taylor that he ended things with Mia to give their relationship another chance. Overwhelmed, Taylor asks him to stop the car immediately. Upon exiting the vehicle, a tragic accident occurs as Steven is hit by another car during a U-turn, causing him to slip into a medically induced coma. However, rest assured that he eventually makes a complete recovery.

Although the same can’t be said for their relationship—at least at this point in the season.
