Players of Pokemon Go have grown accustomed to updates as the game has evolved significantly since its debut in 2016, with many enhancements leading to positive outcomes (although not every change is beneficial). Over time, these frequent updates have allowed the game to evolve and adapt, with developers at Niantic continually seeking ways to refine and optimize the experience. A major modification is on the horizon for Trainer levels within Pokemon Go, and players can anticipate these changes to be implemented later in 2023.
Starting on October 15th, the maximum level limit for Pokemon Go trainers will be increased from 50 to 80. Previously challenging tasks required to advance between levels 41 and 50 are being eliminated, while new tasks will be introduced for levels 71 through 80. Niantic informs players that after the adjustment, they might notice a jump in their level. However, it’s important to note that existing player levels will not decrease due to this update, as the overall progression curve is being readjusted.
Changes to Pokemon Go’s Level Rewards
As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that the rewards in Pokémon Go aren’t just random figures. Instead, they are thoughtfully distributed based on the levels we achieve. Once you climb up to level 25, you’ll unlock exciting new additions to your avatar collection. Moreover, reaching higher levels also brings expanded storage capacity for Pokémon, items, and gifts.
In a recent media briefing I attended, Niantic emphasized that these storage enhancements are automatically unlocked when we reach the corresponding level. This means no more spending extra coins on additional space from the in-game shop – it’s all about progress and rewards!
On October 15th, some players who surpass specific levels will automatically receive any fresh rewards that they might have missed out on. For instance, if you’re at level 40 and new items like avatar accessories are now offered at level 25, you’ll still get them. However, it’s important to note that the rewards previously given between levels 41 and 50 will no longer be distributed. Those who had already earned these rewards earlier will continue to possess them, so if you owned the Level 50 Jacket, you’ll keep it. Players who reached level 50 under the current system will also receive a new avatar pose, and every player will receive an in-game medal to mark the level they achieved before the update.
With the updates not rolling out until October, dedicated Pokemon Go enthusiasts have ample time to hit level 50 beforehand. The game itself is planning an XP celebration event from now until October 14th at 11:59 p.m., local time, which will see players receiving double XP for successful catches with Nice, Great, or Excellent throws, as well as earning an extra 3,000 XP per completed Raid and Max Battle. Moreover, new Timed Research will dish out more XP, while Niantic is easing up on the Level-Up task at level 47, requiring players to walk merely 25 km in a week twice instead of the current eight times.
