Since at least 2023, there have been whispers about a potential remake or enhanced version of “The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.” These murmurs can be traced back as far as the launch of “The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD” on Nintendo Switch in 2021. The anticipation, fueled by these rumors, suggested that titles like “Twilight Princess,” “Ocarina of Time,” and “The Wind Waker” would also receive similar updates. However, up until now, none of this has materialized, and the chatter about these potential releases has significantly diminished.
The recent news stems from trusted Nintendo insider, Nate the Hate – a key figure in the gaming industry at present. At first glance, this update appears inconsequential, but its implications are intriguing. When quizzed about potential work on an Ocarina of Time remake, the source shared that they had no knowledge of such a project.
Is This Bad News?
For followers of The Legend of Zelda, this news isn’t necessarily bad. Nate the Hate is not asserting that a remake is definitely not happening, but rather he has no information to suggest it is. However, it’s concerning that the lack of confirmation from one of Nintendo’s most knowledgeable insiders, who usually knows what’s going on within and around Nintendo, doesn’t lend much hope for the authenticity of an Ocarina of Time remake.
What Has Nintendo Said?
In 2023, Nintendo usually remains silent on rumors, but there was a hint regarding the supposed remake of Ocarina of Time. During an interview, series producer Eiji Aonuma avoided confirming or denying the rumor, merely laughing when asked about it. However, in the same conversation, Aonuma emphasized the significance of Ocarina of Time to the Zelda series. Although his comments don’t provide much fodder for speculation, a simple “no comment” doesn’t necessarily mean “no.
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Question
It might seem unusual for Nintendo to focus on remastering or remaking “The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword” without addressing the other 3D “Zelda” games. However, given that “Skyward Sword” plays a significant role in “Tears of the Kingdom,” it could be that the connection is what prompted its release rather than the start of an era for classic “Zelda” remakes. To clarify, “Tears of the Kingdom” and “Skyward Sword” share a rich lore and timeline connection, with elements like the Master Sword, Skyloft, Demise, among others tying them together. As time goes on, it appears that “Skyward Sword” was not the beginning of a series of classic “Zelda” remakes, but rather a re-release due to its connection to “Tears of the Kingdom.” Of course, your thoughts are always welcome!
