Jameela Jamil Clarifies Serena Williams Comments Over Weight Loss Drug

Jameela Jamil is calling Serena Williams‘ promotion of weight loss medication an unforced error.

Although the former “Good Place” actor clarified that her disagreement was not related to Serena or her personal decision concerning her body, she didn’t mince words when expressing her opinions about Serena’s recent disclosure that she dropped 31 pounds using GLP-1 medication.

Jameela posted on Instagram on August 24th: “Serena Williams appears to be marketing GLP-1s.” What makes me uneasy about this situation is that celebrities often have medical connections that are not available to the general public. These ‘wonder’ weight loss drugs can come with a high price tag.

She continued by listing some potential side effects, such as impairment or complete shutdown of the digestive system, inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis), increased risk of cancer, hair loss, weakened bones (osteoporosis), severe malnutrition, loss of muscle mass, depression, suicidal thoughts, thyroid problems, blindness, and disruptions to your metabolism.

Instead of regaining weight rapidly after stopping these medications, many individuals may find themselves putting on even more weight than they initially lost.

She emphasized the importance of seeking medical assistance. If unforeseen issues arise and one doesn’t have vast resources to address them, she disapproves of celebrities endorsing medications with severe, unverified side effects.

In a statement accompanying her post, Jameela emphasized that individuals should be free to choose whether or not to use similar medications. However, she urged caution, encouraging them to ensure they have reliable healthcare available prior to making their decision.

In addition, she highlighted that Serena’s husband, Alexis Ohanian, is actually an investor in the firm, Ro, which Serena was advocating for. This association was confirmed by the company to Reuters. Jameela further emphasized this as another factor that warrants a healthy dose of skepticism when considering celebrity endorsements.

On the next day, the actress made it clear that her intention wasn’t to criticize Serena personally for using weight loss drugs, but rather to advocate for greater openness regarding decisions of this nature.

In addition, she pointed out that Alexis Ohanian, Serena’s husband, is an investor in the company (Ro) which Serena was endorsing. This fact was confirmed by the company to Reuters. Furthermore, Jameela highlighted this as yet another reason to approach every celebrity endorsement with a measure of skepticism.

In my perspective as a lifestyle enthusiast, the next day I found myself compelled to set the record straight regarding my initial statement. My intent wasn’t to cast direct judgment on Serena for choosing weight loss medication, but rather to advocate for increased openness and transparency surrounding personal health choices such as these.

She penned a detailed post on Substack on August 25th, expressing support for Serena’s freedom to make decisions regarding her own body. She emphasized that Serena’s body has faced enough scrutiny over the years and the focus should shift towards addressing the issue of celebrities endorsing harmful substances like drugs or diet products without revealing the hard facts.

Additionally, she posted another response, criticizing the portrayal of her original statement as it was reported, describing it as “misrepresentation of my words.

As a champion of authenticity in my lifestyle advice, I’ve always been about fostering openness rather than casting judgment. It’s not her admitting to using a drug that I take issue with, but the reckless promotion of potentially harmful substances by privileged celebrities to their followers. Many individuals are grappling with limited access to proper healthcare, and this behavior is unacceptable in light of these challenges.

She added, “I love Serena and would never RIP or SLAM her.”

As a die-hard fan of staying hydrated, I can’t express enough how terrifying it was when dehydration struck me like a thunderbolt. In all my years, nothing has sent chills down my spine quite like that moment. My friend had to grip my feet tight as I went through it. The whole ordeal was petrifying. My face clenched up, and every muscle in my body tensed.

In March 2024, I found myself experiencing an unexpected twist in my health journey. During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, I shared that I had been overtaken by my eating habits relative to Ozempic. As a result, I’ve added a significant 40 pounds to my weight.

In her conversation from June 2024, she expressed that the dietary approach didn’t suppress her hunger as expected. She elaborated, “I know many people say, ‘Oh, I can’t eat.’ But let me tell you, I was enjoying appetizers, a main course, and dessert! It had no effect on my eating habits.”

She continued, “When it appears to work for others yet fails for you, it’s disheartening. In fact, it may leave you questioning, ‘What’s wrong with me? Why doesn’t it seem to work for me?’

In the realm of health and wellness, I’ve come across a wealth of insights regarding various treatments, and Ozempic is one that has caught my attention. While I’m not qualified to delve into the medical aspects, I can share that it appears to offer significant advantages. However, like any treatment, it also carries potential risks that should be carefully considered.

The former member of Little Mix, who has publicly shared her battles with anorexia, confessed that abstaining from Ozempic became challenging due to widespread internet conjecture regarding her weight.

As a wellness advocate, I constantly grapple with the temptation to embark on Ozempic therapy, a struggle I shared with The Guardian last August in 2025. While I empathize with those who choose this path, my personal history with eating disorders leaves me uncertain about venturing into such territory. I’m unsure where such a journey might lead for someone like me.

In my enthusiasm for maintaining my post-pregnancy figure, I, just like the character on Beverly Hills, 90210, explored a weight loss strategy following the birth of my son Beau in 2017.

She added that people have been pretending to advocate for smaller portions, but in reality, many of them are either using Ozempic or similar medications, or they’ve had cosmetic procedures done. Essentially, she asked them to stop the deceit and hypocrisy.

Schumer candidly discussed her previous medical treatments by stating, “Always be truthful with others. When I had liposuction, I openly admitted that I did.

In 2022, she confessed to taking a keen interest in Ozempic right away, but clarified that due to its side effects which impaired her from spending quality time with her son Gene, it was not feasible for her to continue using the Type 2 diabetes medication.

As a lifestyle expert, I can relate to the struggle some folks face when it comes to their health and spending quality time with loved ones. To put it in my own words, I used to be one of those individuals who felt unwell and found it challenging to engage in activities like playing catch with my child due to my diminished physical condition. It was disheartening to be in such a state when my little one was eagerly tossing a ball my way.

Dr. Drew shared with TopMob News during Fox’s Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test season two event in Los Angeles on Sept 12, 2023, that public sentiment towards interventions such as this is divided. People are attracted to it, yet simultaneously, they hold a somewhat critical view.

Forget winter, a hot take is coming.

Previously featured in the hit series “Game of Thrones,” she didn’t hesitate to voice her thoughts on Ozempic and its promotional campaigns.

On the 5th of April, 2023, an Instagram Story from my beloved actress caught my eye. She had re-shared a tweet from the brilliant Sophie Vershbow, which stated, “I’ve had enough of those Ozempic ads filling Times Square subway stations. They can just disappear now!” The ads she mentioned were in some photos she posted, with one reading, “One shot, and it’s goodbye to those extra pounds,” and another suggesting, “Just a weekly shot to shed those unwanted kilos.” As a dedicated fan, I find such weight-loss advertising intrusive and unhealthy. It’s time for a change!

Turner adding her own commentary, writing, “WTF.”

Previously, Novo Nordisk, the manufacturer of Ozempic, informed TopMob News that the medication has not been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for long-term weight management purposes.

In a statement, the Danish drug manufacturer, Novo Nordisk, acknowledged that some medical professionals might be administering Ozempic to aid weight loss in patients. However, it is important to note that they do not endorse, recommend, or suggest using their medicines off-label. They are dedicated to adhering strictly to all relevant U.S. laws and regulations regarding the promotion of their products. The company trusts that healthcare providers are assessing each patient’s unique needs and deciding which treatment is most suitable for them individually.

During the January 25, 2023 episode of Call Her Daddy, she mentioned, “I didn’t realize I was on it,” and then added, “If you ever wish to lose about five pounds, this can be helpful.

But while she tried the drug, Handler noted that she didn’t like how it made her feel.

Upon returning from my vacation, I gave myself an injection. Later, at lunch with a friend, she mentioned she wasn’t eating much because she felt quite nauseous, being on Ozempic. I confessed that I too was feeling queasy, but attributed it to still recovering from jet lag after my trip to Spain.

Eventually, Handler chose to discontinue using the drug as it was not medically required for her health. Moreover, she donated the leftover doses to her friends.

She mentioned that she gave Ozempic, a medication typically used for heavy individuals, to approximately four or five of her friends, as she found it unnecessary. Instead of using it herself, she said she would invite people over and offer them appointments at 1 PM or 2 PM, implying she was acting as a mediator or distributor.

Khloe Kardashian clapped back when commenters on Instagram speculated that she was taking Ozempic.

In a January 2023 post, Kardashian shared, “Don’t undermine my years of dedication to fitness training. Five days each week, I wake up at 6 am for workouts. Let’s refrain from jumping to conclusions. Seems like the new year hasn’t toned down the rude comments yet.

Besides confirming that he had taken the weight-loss medication, Dubrow disclosed in January 2023 that he briefly experimented with Mounjaro to understand its impact on the human body.

The star of Botched expressed awe, saying, ‘I found it incredible.’ He mentioned that he didn’t need to shed much weight. Yet, being surrounded by patients using it, he was curious about the experience for someone who is not diabetic and has just 10-15 pounds to lose.

Despite not revealing the specific amount of weight lost or the duration of his medication use, Dr. Dubrow affirmed that he is now off the medication altogether.

He shared that his decision to stop the medication was due to feeling a strong desire to rekindle his appetite. Additionally, he mentioned experiencing a mild sensation of queasiness.
