7 Great Thunderbolts Members Still Not in the MCU

Following their initial appearance in the comic series Thunderbolts, we’re eagerly anticipating the introduction of even more remarkable characters from Marvel Comics within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The 2025 film, also titled Thunderbolts, introduced Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes’ Winter Soldier, John Walker’s US Agent, Ava Starr’s Ghost, and Alexei Shostakov’s Red Guardian as the team’s inaugural line-up. This group was later rebranded as the New Avengers, paving the way for a genuine Thunderbolts team to emerge in the MCU, potentially featuring some exceptional characters from the comic books.

The Thunderbolts made their debut in Marvel Comics as a flashy team of new heroes in “The Incredible Hulk #449” back in 1997. They stepped in to replace the Avengers when it was believed they had died, but it turned out they were actually disguised members of Baron Zemo’s Masters of Evil. However, their role as villains eventually convinced them to perform good deeds and seek redemption – a transformation that was portrayed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s “Thunderbolts.” Marvel Studios did an excellent job with their line-up, but it would be exciting to see some famous Thunderbolts characters from the comics make an appearance in the MCU as well.

7) Flash Thompson’s Agent Venom

Since 2017’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” the character Eugene “Flash” Thompson, portrayed by Tony Revolori, has been a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). However, he hasn’t taken on the Agent Venom persona yet. In 2011’s “The Amazing Spider-Man #654,” Flash bonded with the Venom Symbiote, which led to him becoming Agent Venom. Following this, he joined a team similar to the Thunderbolts, led by Red Hulk, alongside characters such as Deadpool, Elektra, and The Punisher – all of whom have conditions that cannot be cured. It would be exciting to see Flash Thompson finally embody Agent Venom in the MCU, providing Tony Revolori with a more dynamic role, and officially introducing the Symbiote into the universe.

6) Donnie Gill’s Blizzard

Given that Agents of SHIELD isn’t part of the MCU’s main timeline, there’s a chance they could reintroduce Donnie Gill’s character, Blizzard, who was portrayed by Dylan Minnette in the Marvel TV series. In 2004, Blizzard joined Abner Jenkins’ reformed Thunderbolts team, the second version of this group. Notably, Jenkins had been a part of the original team and formed a new one to emulate the first, aiming to transform villains like Speed Demon, Radioactive Man, Nighthawk, and Blizzard into heroes. However, Donnie Gill eventually returned to his criminal ways.

5) Satana Hellstrom

During the “Heroic Age” of 2010, the half-human, half-demon character Satana Hellstrom was enlisted into Luke Cage’s Thunderbolts squad. Recruited by both Cage and Doctor Strange, she embarked on a time-traveling mission with the team. Given that Sydney Lemmon’s portrayal of Ana in Marvel Television’s “Helstrom” series didn’t fare well, it would be exciting to witness a reimagining of Satana and her brother, Daimon (who are children of Marduk Kurios, often depicted as Satan), within the MCU. These magic-infused antiheroes could prove to be exceptional additions to the Thunderbolts, considering the MCU’s growing emphasis on supernatural characters and narratives.

4) Abner Jenkins’ Beetle

Prior to assembling his own Thunderbolts squad, Abner Jenkins was enlisted by Baron Zemo for the Masters of Evil and served as an original member of the team. Initially, Jenkins, who went by the villainous name Beetle due to his armor-reinforced suit that granted him strength sufficient to battle groups like the Fantastic Four and Spider-Man, later adopted the alias MACH-1 upon joining the Thunderbolts. As he upgraded his suit over time, Jenkins changed his codename, adopting titles such as MACH-2 through X. Given his long tenure and significant impact within the Thunderbolts, Jenkins seems a fitting choice for inclusion in the live-action MCU.

3) Karla Sofen’s Meteorite

Apart from Abner Jenkins, Karla Sofen was among the original members of the Thunderbolts in Marvel Comics. Her villainous journey began as Moonstone, who acquired her powers by merging with a Kree-engineered “gravity gem.” Later on, she was known as Meteorite within the Thunderbolts team, and eventually assumed the title of Ms. Marvel when she joined the Dark Avengers. It would be exciting to see Sofen make her appearance in a potential Captain Marvel 3, partnering with Carol Danvers, Monica Rambeau, and Kamala Khan. As the Thunderbolts’ frequent field commander, Meteorite could have a promising future in the MCU.

2) Melissa Gold’s Songbird

Before the premiere of Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts, whispers emerged suggesting that Geraldine Viswanathan’s character “Mel” might actually be the MCU version of Melissa Gold, also known as Songbird, an initial member of the Thunderbolts team from Marvel Comics. The necklace adorned with a bird pendant she wears in the 2025 film could possibly be a clue to her superhero persona. Known for her iconic status within the Thunderbolts, Songbird is highly anticipated to fully embody this role in the MCU, showcasing her supersonic powers and establishing herself as a key member of the Thunderbolts for many years.

1) Johnny Blaze’s Ghost Rider

Anticipation is high for Johnny Blaze’s Ghost Rider character to enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), as the series “Thunderbolts” has paved the way for this. While he’s famous for being part of groups like the Midnight Sons, Legion of Monsters, and Defenders, Johnny Blaze joined forces with the Thunderbolts starting from issue #20 of the 2014 “Thunderbolts (Vol. 2)”. This team includes characters such as Red Hulk, Deadpool, Elektra, and the Punisher – all of whom have already appeared in the MCU. With rumors swirling about Mephisto’s upcoming debut in the MCU, it won’t be long before Johnny Blaze makes his pact with the demon and transforms into Ghost Rider.
