7 Strongest Thor Villains That Still Need an MCU Appearance

The Dark World. Although this movie was not well-received when it first released, it still managed to secure a third Thor film. This third installment, titled Thor: Ragnarok, introduced Hela as the primary antagonist and featured appearances by the Executioner, Surtur, and the Grandmaster. As expected, Ragnarok turned out to be a massive success, leading up to Thor: Love and Thunder, which took a bold step by recruiting Christian Bale to play Gorr the God Butcher.

Considering all that we know, it’s surprising that Thor may still encounter numerous adversaries within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Yet, his comic book history is far richer than his live-action counterpart, implying that if he continues to appear in the MCU, there will likely be more epic fights ahead.

1) Jormungand

Previously, Thor has dealt with colossal creatures in the Marvel Cinematic Universe due to Fenris Wolf, a companion of Hela. In the comics, Fenris Wolf is actually Loki’s progeny, and they share a sibling, Jormungand – the Midgard Serpent. This sea-dwelling serpent-like being was cast out from Asgard by Odin and now resides in Earth’s oceans. Occasionally, it reappears to create trouble for Thor with its massive size and power.

2) Ulik

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Asgard appears tranquil when no external dangers are present. However, the comics depict it as a place with potential internal threats, particularly the Rock Trolls who pose a hazard whenever they emerge from their lairs. Among them, Ulik stands out as the strongest, harboring a grudge against Thor following an attempt to seize Mjolnir. Despite his lack of intelligence, Ulik is always ready for a confrontation.

3) Enchantress

Interestingly, Enchantress hasn’t been introduced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) so far, and it’s speculated that “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” might be the reason. Lorelei, her sister, has been featured on the show, and she shares many of Enchantress’s abilities. However, it’s been quite some time since Lorelei was introduced, and Enchantress is known to be a more powerful sorceress. She often uses her powers to irritate Thor, making him think outside the box to defeat her as brute force isn’t enough against her.

4) Ragnarok

Tony Stark and Thor often find themselves at odds, yet they hold a mutual respect for each other. During the Civil War, Iron Man takes things too far by creating a clone of Thor to bolster his side in the conflict. Unfortunately, Ragnarok doesn’t function as intended, resulting in the death of Goliath when it blasts straight through him. The Thor clone resurfaces on occasion, but Thor usually comes out on top. However, their battle with Ragnarok isn’t just about physical combat – the mental aspect is equally crucial.

5) Mangog

In the Marvel movie “Ragnarok”, Odin’s past actions come to haunt his children as Hela resurfaces. The comic book version of the All-Father isn’t any better. He conjures up Mangog after annihilating an entire race, a being embodying their collective hatred. Mangog launches attacks on Asgard, causing significant destruction. At one instance, Jane Foster’s Thor hurls him into the sun, yet Mangog persists and continues his rampage.

6) Serpent

Apart from Thor and Loki, Odin’s elder brother Cul Borson, known alternatively as the Serpent, stands out as particularly malevolent. His ambition is to dominate the Nine Realms, a goal he pursues ruthlessly, leaving destruction in his wake. The Serpent isn’t just dangerous in human form; he can transform into a massive serpent-like creature, making him even more formidable. Thor manages to slay his uncle in this unusual shape, but the battle proves that the Serpent is someone not to underestimate, as he ultimately survives the encounter despite his wounds.

7) Ares

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), it’s likely that Thor will encounter a Greek character, Hercules, before long. Interestingly, Zeus, Hercules’ father, might send another son after Thor instead – Ares, the God of War. The God of War and Thor have a history of conflict in the comics, with their battles being quite famous. In fact, at one point, even Thor had to join forces with Hercules to subdue Ares.
