One of the few ongoing live-service games for PS5 developed by Sony, Fairgames, recently experienced a change in leadership. Last month, its game director left to join WB Games Montreal. On LinkedIn, Daniel Drapeau officially announced his departure from Haven Studio, where he had been the game director for nearly four and a half years on this project.
Beginning this week, I have taken on the role of Creative Director at WB Games Montreal Inc. I am thrilled to embark on this exciting journey alongside all the talented individuals in our studio.
From the outset, Drapeau was a part of Fairgames, working side by side with the studio’s founder Jade Raymond. However, after a internal review that sparked some worries, she departed from the studio in May 2025, as reported by Bloomberg. Now, it appears that Drapeau has also chosen to leave the company.
On video game projects, especially for Sony’s live services on PS5, it’s common for lead developers to depart. However, the circumstances surrounding these departures don’t look promising, given the company’s past struggles. Several Games as a Service planned by PlayStation have been prematurely cancelled before release or shut down post-launch, such as Concord. Meanwhile, Bungie is still planning to launch Marathon, but it’s faced with allegations of plagiarism recently.
Currently, Fairgames continues its public development, yet there’s a growing sentiment that it may not proceed as planned with the cooperative heist project.
Based on early players’ accounts, Fairgames has been characterized as a fusion of Battle Royale and Extraction Shooter genres, blending aspects reminiscent of The Division and Fortnite. However, as noted back in May, it was reported to be quite challenging and not very smooth to play.
