The Crawley clan is preparing for their last journey in a concluding Downton Abbey movie, hinted at by Michelle Dockery’s latest remarks to expect high-stakes drama.
In the 1930s, Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale unfolds with Lord Grantham (Hugh Bonneville) planning to relinquish his role as head of the esteemed estate and pass it on to his daughter, Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery).
Yet, the most recent trailer hints that her divorce from Henry Talbot, portrayed by Matthew Goode, might put her claim to her father’s inheritance at risk.
During an interview for TopMob magazine, Dockery discussed the social scandal her character will face in the upcoming movie.
Speaking about the development of Lady Mary’s role, Dockery, who has portrayed her in 52 episodes over six seasons and three films, stated: “I feel like I’ve grown up alongside her. When I reflect on those initial episodes, I can see she’s transformed into quite a distinct individual now.
As a devoted movie enthusiast, I’d say: “She’s been known for her stubbornness throughout, but there was a time when she was rather petty, much like a disgruntled teenager. Over the years, she’s navigated through various challenges, and in this movie, she’s confronting social shame.

She added that it’s the ups and downs, the challenges life presents to these characters, that audiences find appealing.
The trailer subtly suggests that the family may face financial hardships, as Robert seems to bid farewell to his ancestral home, and in a heartfelt gesture, a portrait of the late Dame Maggie Smith’s character, the Dowager Countess, is prominently displayed on the walls.
As a devotee of fine cinema, I’m thrilled to share that for the third chapter in this captivating saga, we have the privilege of having back Michelle Dockery and Hugh Bonneville, along with Dominic West, Elizabeth McGovern, Laura Carmichael, Jim Carter, Phyllis Logan, Robert James-Collier, Joanne Froggatt, Allen Leech, Penelope Wilton, and Lesley Nicol. Quite an ensemble, isn’t it?
Michael Fox, Raquel Cassidy, Brendan Coyle, Kevin Doyle, Harry Hadden-Paton, Sophie McShera, and Douglas Reith will rejoin the series, while Paul Giamatti, Joely Richardson, Alessandro Nivola, Simon Russell Beale, and Arty Froushan will be joining the cast for the first time.
