Channing Tatum Makes Rare Comment on “Painful” Jenna Dewan Divorce

Channing Tatum is sharing insight into his difficult divorce from Jenna Dewan

About a year following the finalization of the divorce between the co-stars of “Step Up”, the actor shared his current status with ex-wife Jenna, who he shares 12-year-old daughter Everly Tatum with.

Channing shared with Variety in a September 2nd interview that Jenna and him are doing well now, but their separation in 2018 was tough on both of them, given their young age at the time. He mentioned they attempted to make it work for a year and a half before ultimately parting ways.

The actor from “21 Jump Street,” who was previously engaged to Zoë Kravitz but ended their relationship in October, refrained from discussing specifics, but he did acknowledge the challenging aspects of co-parenting openly.

He commented that their breakup was something from the past, but he found it incredibly difficult not to spend as much time with his daughter as he’d like. If only he could have her with him all the time, he added.

Channing isn’t alone in addressing his past relationship openly. Jenna, who has a 5-year-old son named Callum and a 15-month-old daughter with her fiancé Steve Kazee, also recently shared her thoughts on the effects of their public divorce from earlier this year.

In her essay published by InStyle on January 22, 2024, Jenna expressed that she gained significant insights about herself, particularly her resilience and self-expression. She discovered the importance of setting boundaries in relationships and embracing discomfort. Furthermore, she understood the essence of trust.

Similarly to Channing, the Rookie star expressed that their 12-year marriage was beyond repair.

Occasionally, things no longer function because they’ve outgrown their container, and that’s perfectly fine.

And Jenna has also shared that coparenting is a necessary challenge.

She shared that it’s essential to adjust and change according to life’s circumstances, as she mentioned in an interview with People last June. This involves embracing the ‘new normal’ of a combined family structure too.

After officially separating in 2019 following eight years of marriage, Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan are still working through financial issues. The co-stars of “Step Up” share custody of their daughter, Everly, who was born on May 31, 2013.

By April 2024, Dewan submitted documents seeking both her and Tatum to provide testimony on all matters concerning their marriage, encompassing any business and financial dealings.

Additionally, she presented an initial inventory of exhibits asking for personal and business tax statements as well as financial records related to the earnings from the “Magic Mike” franchise.

In this matter, the novice actress claims that they jointly obtained the rights to the ‘Magic Mike’ franchise. She alleges that Channing Tatum put the earnings into an unchangeable trust and subsequently transferred licensing agreements to a different party without her knowledge, according to reports from People, based on court documents.

Tatum disputed her claim in his own filing, obtained by TopMob News.

According to the documents, the ‘Magic Mike’ brand was developed during a marriage. After the marriage ended, several entities connected to this brand were also established. Since the separation, Channing Tatum is said to have invested significant effort in growing the ‘Magic Mike’ brand and related businesses. He believes this work has given him a separate ownership stake in these properties.

In the document submitted to the court, it is stated that the court will be required to determine and distinguish the communal and individual ownership rights of Tatum regarding the intellectual property and associated entities, taking into account his post-divorce contributions.

In her initial list of witnesses, Dewan has added several individuals who were involved in the making of the Magic Mike trilogy alongside Tatum. Among them are director Steven Soderbergh and producers Nick Wechsler and Peter Kiernan.

In the preliminary witness list that he submitted to the court a day after Dewan’s documents were filed, and which was later acquired by TopMob News, Tatum named Steve Kazee, his former wife’s current partner.

After Dewan accused her ex-husband of concealing some of his earnings, Tatum (fiancé of Zoë Kravitz) responded with new documents filed in May 2024, denying the allegations. He asserted that he never withheld any community assets or income from Jenna and has consistently agreed to give her a stake in the “Magic Mike” intellectual property and related entities.

He further explained that during their marriage, Jenna had unrestricted access to their business managers and financial records. They regularly discussed their work and projects. Since their separation, she has had full access to all financial records relating to activities during their marriage and post-separation.

The documents also contend that Jenna’s petition is aimed at delaying their divorce proceedings.

The documents suggest that this method is intended to prolong the legal process, escalate litigation costs significantly, and unfortunately does not encourage an early resolution through settlement. This is particularly pertinent in situations where, despite five mediation meetings, the defendant has ignored a proposed judgment that was presented to them for several months.

Tatum and Dewan finalized their divorce in September 2024 after a six-year long battle.

The two parties consensually decided to forgo alimony payments, and furthermore, in case of any future disputes concerning their daughter Everly’s custody, they will settle the matters confidentially with a judge.

Since reaching an agreement, the couple avoided another trial that was set for December 2024.
